World Book Day, also known as World Book and Copyright Day, is celebrated on April 23 every year across the globe in order to recognize the importance and promote the benefits of reading books, publishing, and copyrighting. Every year United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) organize the celebration of World Book Day, and this year World Book Day completed its silver jubilee, that is, the 25th edition.

In order to celebrate World Book Day 2021, UNESCO has created a bookface challenge. That is a great initiative from UNESCO because as we all know book covers are incredibly important and play a major role for us when it comes to buying a book. Sometimes we get judgmental about covers when we cannot select which book, we should buy as we are lacking even the slightest idea about those books which are kept in front of us at the time of purchasing.

Sitting at home during lockdown was a difficult task that we humans barely managed to do it and some of the credit goes to books and novels that provided us comfort and escapism. Students, teachers, and readers from all around the world are invited to this challenge and along with these enthusiasts, the book industry and library staff are also invited to express their love for books.

There is a reason for celebrating World Book Day on April 23 every year. Many famous authors were either born or have died on this day, now you can call this a coincidence or magical. Like, William Shakespeare, Miguel de Cervantes, and Josep Pla died on this day, whereas, Manuel Mejia Vallejo and Maurice Druon were born on the same day, that is, April 23.

Every year great events held on this day but due to the widespread of the coronavirus, this year’s celebration has been changed. Most educational institutions are closed for the safety of students, teachers, and staff. This year people can download a good book from the internet and gain knowledge.

 Theme

Every year, UNESCO and many renowned International Organizations represent the three major sectors of the book industry – booksellers, publishers, and libraries. According to UNESCO, the city of Tbilisi in Georgia was selected as the World Book Capital for 2021.
