Netflix’s newest workplace comedy, Minimum Wage, is now streaming, and the first question many viewers are asking is a simple one. Will there be a season 2? Here is where things stand right now.
What is the show about?
Minimum Wage follows a group of teenagers who work at the Slice Club, a messy local pizzeria where the pay is low, and the drama is high. Aidan, Grace, Hyde, and the rest of the crew have to deal with difficult customers, bossy managers, and the daily struggle of keeping the place running. On top of that, they still have school and their own lives to sort out.
The series is based on the viral American High Shorts series of the same name. It keeps the fast, mockumentary-style humour that made those online clips so popular. If you want to know whether the jokes actually work, our Minimum Wage review looks at how messy and hard to laugh at the show can be.
Has Netflix renewed it?
Not yet. At the time of writing, Netflix has not officially renewed Minimum Wage for a second season. That is normal this early. Netflix usually looks at several numbers first, like how many people start the show and how many drop off along the way. Completion rate matters a lot too, and the very short episodes could help here, since they are easy to finish.
The signs that look good
There are a few encouraging clues. First, Netflix is calling the current batch Season 1 instead of a limited series. That keeps the door open for more.
Second, the original Minimum Wage shorts had already crossed 30 million views across YouTube, TikTok, and Instagram. American High Shorts as a whole has reportedly gathered billions of views online. That means the show comes with a ready-made audience.
Third, the episodes are cheap and quick to make, which is always a plus for a streamer.
The 28-episode puzzle
Here is the interesting part. When the show was first announced, Netflix reportedly ordered 28 episodes, each running about 12 minutes. But at launch, only 14 episodes are listed as Season 1, and they run a little longer than that.
So where are the other episodes? One possible answer is that Netflix has simply packaged them differently. The source compares this to Money Heist, which started as one season in Spain and was later split into two for Netflix. If that is the case here, the rest of the order could show up as a second batch. This is only a guess, though, and Netflix has not said anything about it.
Our prediction
Based on all of this, the outlet we read expects Minimum Wage to be renewed. There is an established online fan base, the cost is low, and Netflix originally commissioned twice as many episodes as are available now. The only real question is whether Netflix will actually label the next batch as Season 2.
What could season 2 look like?
If it happens, the main Slice Club crew would almost surely come back. Randall Park could also return as Mr. Sylvester, the odd owner whose attempts to keep the business afloat cause even more chaos.
The workplace setting gives the writers plenty of room to play. New customers, fresh rivalries, small disasters, and relationship drama can all show up in each episode, while the teenagers’ lives outside the pizza shop keep growing. If Netflix gives the green light, we may get another 14 short episodes, based on how the first batch is structured.
What to do now
For now, the best thing fans can do is watch the show and see how the numbers go. Netflix tends to decide quickly when a show catches on, so an announcement could come sooner than you think. We will update this article as soon as there is official news.
