Bakaiti Season 2 Review: The Kataria Family Is Back, But So Are Their Old Problems

Sheeba Chadha and Rajesh Tailang keep this Zee5 family drama watchable, even when the writing runs out of fresh ideas

    Bakaiti Season 2 Review

    Bakaiti Season 2 Review: ★★★☆☆ (3/5)

Bakaiti Season 2 is warmer and less chaotic than the first season, with strong performances and plenty of familiar family moments. However, repetitive arguments, predictable resolutions, and some weak storylines stop the seven-episode series from reaching its full potential.

    Rating: ★★★☆☆ (3/5)
    Platform: Zee5
    Language: Hindi
    Genre: Family Drama, Comedy
    Episodes: 7
    Director: Samar Iqbal
Writers: Abhinav Vaidya, Gunjan Saxena, and Neha Pawar
Cast: Rajesh Tailang, Sheeba Chaddha, Tanya Sharma, Aaditya Shukla, Parvinder Jit Singh, Poonam Jangra, Ramesh Rai and others

The Kataria family from Ghaziabad is back on our screens, and so is their never-ending cycle of money troubles and loud arguments. Bakaiti Season 2 has landed on Zee5 with seven new episodes, and this time the makers have turned the volume down a little, though the drama is still very much alive.

For anyone who hasn’t watched the first season, Bakaiti roughly means non-stop bickering, and that title fits the show perfectly. Sanjay, played by Rajesh Tailang, is a lawyer who’s still struggling to make ends meet. His desperation pushes him to take up work for a shady builder who wants his help illegally evicting people from their homes, a track that sets up Sanjay’s biggest moral dilemma this season.

Meanwhile, his wife Sushma, played by Sheeba Chadha, has finally got her boutique business running smoothly. But success comes with its own cost, as Sanjay isn’t entirely happy about her being busy outside the house instead of focusing on family duties. It’s a small but telling detail about how the show handles gender dynamics within a middle-class household.

Adding to the chaos, Sanjay’s younger brother Ajay and his wife move in with the family after their own home gets caught in a flood. Their extended stay becomes the season’s biggest source of tension, bringing back plenty of old sibling rivalry and financial arguments.

The younger Katarias get their own space to shine this season. Daughter Naina has moved to Mumbai for her Master’s degree and is dealing with new friendships and confusing feelings for a classmate. Her brother Bunty is anxiously waiting to hear if he’s made the district cricket team, while also trying to impress a girl who interns at his mother’s boutique.

What really keeps the show afloat is the chemistry between Chadha and Tailang. The two actors have played married couples in several shows before, and that comfort clearly shows on screen. Their scenes together feel warm and lived-in, even when the story around them starts to feel repetitive.

And that’s really the biggest issue with Bakaiti Season 2. The family keeps fighting over the same kinds of problems, whether it’s money, ego, or household duties, and every conflict gets resolved a little too conveniently. Just when a fight threatens to break the family apart, a heartfelt conversation smooths everything over, and the cycle starts again with the next episode.

The builder subplot, which was meant to give Sanjay’s character some real moral weight, also feels rushed and thinly written, especially by the time the season wraps up. It’s the kind of storyline that promises tension but doesn’t quite deliver the payoff it seems to be building toward.

Still, if you enjoyed the first season, or shows like Gullak that revolve around relatable middle-class struggles, Bakaiti Season 2 offers enough warmth and good performances to make the watch worthwhile. Just don’t expect too many surprises along the way.

If you’re looking for more OTT reviews, don’t miss our take on Hunkkaar The Roar, a show with a strong premise that struggles with its scattered writing, or check out Shaque Trust No One, a story that starts simple but gets buried under one too many twists.
