The ideology of Sikhs says “Everyone is the same”, it’s their faith that believes in equality and service to others. Following their service pride, the Delhi Sikh Gurudwara committee has come forward to help the COVID situation built the capital and therefore provide all possible help from their end.
Delhi is seeing a huge rise in COVID-19 patients every day. Besides all the sophisticated conditions provided by the capital, the number is nowhere to be in control or what it was aimed for.
To support the state government, the Delhi Sikh Gurudwara Management Committee (DSGMC) has offered to create 850-bedded COVID Care Centres in their Gurudwara’s premises and all the educational institutions in the city.
The DSGMC President, Manjinder Singh Sirsa has come forward with the idea to help the needy. Sirsa has decided to provide every essential service to aid the growing number of Coronavirus affectees and tackle the outbreak in the capital.
In his interview, the DSGMC President has mentioned that such centers will be be used to admit those patients who have either low-grade fever, sore throat, or any mild symptom. These patients will be monitored 24×7 and will be under good care.
In his statement, Sirsa has said that the committee knows the key role here is to provide adequate hospitality. That is why, best medical care, oxygen, laboratory services, and goodwill hospitality will be practiced at these centers.
The committee has already written a letter to the Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal to ask for permission in setting up the baton of 850 medical centers at the gurudwaras in the city.
According to Sirsa, the DSGMC has offered a total of 850 beds under the initiative. These beds will be provided in fully air-conditioning rooms at gurudwaras and pre-booked marriage halls.
In his letter to Kejriwal, Sirsa has mentioned the following locations in the state:
- Gurudwara Nanak Piao Sahib
- 235 beds at Guru Harkrishan Yatri Niwas in Gurudwara Bangla Sahib
- 60 beds (30 rooms) at Guru Arjan Dev Yatri Niwas in Gurudwara Rakab Ganj Sahib
- 11 beds at Guru Hargobind Institute of Management and Information Technology
- 100 beds at Guru Harkrishan Public School
- 40 beds at Gurudwara Damdama Sahib
- 50 beds each at Guru Tegh Bahadur Polytechnic Institute
- Guru Nanak Sukhshala.
Not only does the government help the citizens but many private organizations have come forward too.
The Hemkunt Foundation
The Hemkunt Foundation has its head office in Delhi. With over 50 members, the community has come forward to help the city migrants. The foundation has been accompanied by over 50,000 Delhi families to provide a daily morning and evening meal to such migrants who travel across the state.
After the initiative of Unlock 1.0, the graph of COVID-19 patients has seen its highest peak in the last 84 days in Delhi. As of June 17, the state has reported 44,688 confirmed positive COVID-19 patients, over 16,500 recovery cases, and a toll of 1,837.
