Google has entered the laptop market with a new device lineup called Googlebook. The company unveiled the category in May this year, and the first machines are now available for pre-order, with retail sales beginning in early October.

    What is Googlebook

Googlebook is not a single laptop model. It’s a new platform that blends Android with elements of ChromeOS, built specifically around Google’s Gemini AI. Five hardware partners — Acer, Asus, Dell, HP, and Lenovo — have built the first wave of devices, each with its own design and price point.

The core idea behind Googlebook is a tighter connection between phone and laptop. During setup, a user can bring over Wi-Fi passwords, saved logins, and messages from their Android phone. A feature called Continue On lets someone start a task on their phone and pick it up on the laptop without losing progress. Another tool, Cast My Apps, lets phone apps run inside a window on the desktop.

Gemini sits at the center of the experience. Magic Pointer brings AI assistance into whatever a user is doing on screen — reading text, analyzing an image, or organizing information — triggered by a specific cursor movement. There’s also Rambler, a voice tool that converts spoken notes into organized text across multiple languages, and Create My Widget, which builds a custom widget from a plain-language description, no coding required.

    Pricing across the five models

Each manufacturer has set its own price for launch:

    • Acer Googlebook 14 — starting at $899
    • Dell XPS Googlebook — starting at $999
    • Lenovo Googlebook 15 — starting at $1,099
    • Asus Googlebook 14 — starting at $1,299
    • HP Googlebook 14 — starting at $1,299

All five are open for pre-order now. Units start shipping in the US from October 4, with Canada, the UK, Ireland, France, Germany, and Australia following a day later on October 5.

    Hardware differences between models

Specs vary by brand since Google left the hardware design to its partners, though every model is positioned as a premium device.

The Acer and Asus Googlebook 14 both run an Intel Core Ultra 5 chip with 16GB RAM and 512GB storage, paired with a 14-inch 2.8K OLED touchscreen; Acer claims up to 16 hours of battery life with an NPU rated near 49 TOPS.

Dell’s XPS Googlebook takes a different route with a Snapdragon X Elite processor, the same 16GB RAM and 512GB storage, but a smaller 13.4-inch 2.5K LCD touchscreen — and the longest quoted battery life in the lineup at up to 18 hours.

HP’s Googlebook 14 also uses a Snapdragon X Elite chip, matches the 14-inch 2.8K OLED display, and claims up to 19 hours on a charge.

Lenovo’s Googlebook 15 is the largest of the group, with a 15.3-inch 2.8K OLED screen and an Intel Core Ultra 5 processor, though its battery life tops out around 13 hours.

Across the board, Google says NPUs on these machines exceed 45 TOPS, and build materials include aluminium, magnesium alloy, and carbon fibre depending on the model. A lighting strip called the Glowbar returns as a design element, indicating battery level and reacting when Gemini is in use.

When it will be available in India?

Google has not announced an India launch date or price for Googlebook. The current rollout covers only the US, Canada, UK, Ireland, France, Germany, and Australia. Given the US pricing floor of $899 and how import duties typically affect laptop pricing in India, buyers here are likely looking at a premium price tag whenever the devices do arrive — but nothing is confirmed yet.
