Airtel, one of India’s telecom service providers, announced that it has started repurposing its existing mid-band spectrum to meet the rapidly growing traffic demand on its 5G network. According to the exchange filing, with the increasing number of customers switching to 5G, Airtel is reallocating its mid-band spectrum to expand 5G services in its 1800, 2100 and 2300 MHz bands across the country.

Airtel users will get good browsing speed

The motive behind re-farming of mid-band spectrum is to provide better browsing speed and better indoor coverage to customers. As the demand for data is increasing, Airtel is accelerating its spectrum re-farming efforts to provide a great 5G experience to its users.

Bharti Airtel CTO Randeep Sekhon said that as more customers are attracted to our 5G services, we have re-farmed our mid-band spectrum which was being used for 4G services.

Along with this, Randeep Sekhon says that we are also ready to launch stand-alone technology, which will make the Airtel network the first network in India to run on both stand-alone and non-standalone modes. This will enable us to provide the best experience in the market.

Airtel has successfully operated the switch between standalone mode (SA) and non-standalone mode (NSA) mode on its 5G network in select circles including Rewari, Chennai and Bhubaneswar, the results of which have been encouraging. This capability will enable Airtel to offer new innovative applications, services and solutions through open APIs, differentiated connectivity and service-based architecture.

Airtel NSA and SA experience can be further improved in collaboration with smartphone original equipment manufacturers (OEM). Over the past year, Airtel has demonstrated the power of 5G with many use cases that have changed the way customers live and do business. Airtel’s 5G rollout has been the fastest in the country, now covering all 28 states and 8 union territories.
