    The world is growing really fast whether it may be in terms of population or in terms of technology. The present generation is driven deeply into so many social applications that it is really difficult to count those applications. Every month hundreds of new social networking or messaging apps are being added up in the Google Play Store and Apple store.




    So, here is the list of the top 10 most downloaded apps in January 2021 and you will be surprised to see which application acquired the number one spot and at which position WhatsApp has descended to after being boycotted by many of its users.

    1. Telegram

    This app was first released on August 14, 2013. Telegram is a cross-platform messaging app that allows users to share information in the form of texts, voice chats, photos, etc. This app also features end-to-end encrypted video calling, file sharing, and many other features. With nearly 6.3 crore downloads, this app manages to hold the first spot on the list in January 2021.




    1. Tik-Tok

    Holding the second position in the list, Tik-Tok, also known as Douyin in China, is a video content sharing social platform owned by the Chinese company ByteDance. This application was first released in September 2016 and it was first known by the name of Musical.ly. Last month this app got installed by six crore new users.

    As people started boycotting WhatsApp, the Signal app came under the limelight as it turned out to be the best alternative to WhatsApp, and also Elon Musk recommended using this app on his Twitter account. This app was developed by Signal Technology Foundation and Signal Messenger LLC and after being boasted this app got third place in the ranking.

    According to our opinion, Facebook was the first social networking platform that brought a revolution on the internet and also in online businesses. The name did first appear as a website and then after years, its app was launched. The founder of Facebook is Mark Zuckerberg and due to its high demand and popularity, it is holding the fourth position.

    The instant messaging application Whatsapp suddenly dropped to the fifth position as recently it came to know that all the chat data will be shared with its parent company, that is, Facebook, meaning there will be no privacy now between users and their chats. This app was initially released on May 3, 2009, and was acquired by Facebook in February 2014.

    Who could have ever thought that creating an application to share your pictures with your friends and family will become the most trending application of the world in the era of modern technology? This application was first launched on October 6, 2010, and was later owned by Facebook back in 2012.

    There would hardly be any institution or a company that has not used Zoom during the lockdown to conduct classes or business meetings. This application is basically used for teleconferencing, telecommuting, social relations, etc. Due to its high demand because of the pandemic, it manages to grab the seventh spot on the list.




    1. MX TakaTak

    You can call it a replacement for Tik-Tok after it got banned in India because of security reasons. This app also offers the same features as Tik-Tok and it claims to have over 7 crore monthly active users and took the eighth position in the list.

    1. Snapchat

    This application brought the concept of stories and snaps and now this concept has become a trend and copied by all the famous social networking platforms like Instagram and Facebook. This was created by former Stanford University students Evan Spiegel, Bobby Murphy, and Reggie Brown. It was initially released on July 8, 2011, and available in 37 languages.




    1. Facebook Messenger

    It is an American messaging app developed by Facebook to make chats easy and more engaging for its users. Originally it was first recognized as Facebook Chat and was developed in 2008 and in 2010 the company revamped its messaging service. This application was first released on August 9, 2011, and holds the tenth spot on the list.
