Some life stories are so big that one film can never hold them. Muhammad Ali is clearly one of them, which is why Prime Video has turned his journey into a full limited series. The Greatest premieres tomorrow, November 4, 2026, and all eight episodes will be available on day one. That means you can watch one episode at a time or finish the whole thing over a weekend.
What is the series about?
The Greatest looks at both the personal and professional life of the boxing legend. That covers the boy who started as Cassius Clay and the man the world came to know as Muhammad Ali. Plot details are limited right now, but the cast list gives some hints. It includes Sonny Liston, Malcolm X, trainer Angelo Dundee, and the wrestler Gorgeous George, so those chapters of his life will likely feature.
The series is produced with Ali’s estate, and his widow, Lonnie Ali, is one of the executive producers. That suggests the family had a say in how his story is told.
Who is in the cast?
Jaalen Best plays Ali, which is a huge role for any actor. Omari Hardwick plays his father, Cassius “Cash” Clay Sr., and Dana Gourrier plays his mother, Odessa “Bird” Clay. Kai Parham plays his brother Rudy, who later became Rahaman Ali, and Amin Joseph plays Sonny Liston.
The recurring cast is strong too. Michael Ealy plays Malcolm X, and Giovanni Ribisi plays Angelo Dundee. Erica Tazel, Reno Wilson, Aleks Paunovic, Dave Davis, Rico E. Anderson, and Adrian Alvarado also appear, and Chris Jericho joins as Gorgeous George.
Who is behind it?
Ben Watkins created the series and serves as its showrunner. He also directs the first two episodes. Michael B. Jordan is an executive producer through his company, Outlier Society, along with Josh Wakely, who first got the rights to Ali’s life story and brought the project to Amazon. Roc Nation and Authentic Studios are among the production companies as well.
Prime Video ordered the series back in July 2024. Filming took place in Ontario in 2025, including Cobourg and Hamilton, with more shooting in Toronto.

It also helps that the cast is full of experienced actors and that the project has the backing of Ali’s family. Of course, we will only know how well it works once people start watching.
