India have barely paused after their 3 to 2 T20I series win. Now comes the ODI leg of the New Zealand tour, with five matches from November 4 to 15. It brings a captain swap, two big comebacks, and a few injury worries on both sides.
Schedule and Start Time
All five matches start at 7:30 AM IST, which is 3:00 PM local time.
| Match | Date | Day | Venue |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1st ODI | November 4 | Wednesday | Eden Park, Auckland |
| 2nd ODI | November 7 | Saturday | Wellington |
| 3rd ODI | November 10 | Tuesday | Seddon Park, Hamilton |
| 4th ODI | November 13 | Friday | Bay Oval, Mount Maunganui |
| 5th ODI | November 15 | Sunday | Bay Oval, Mount Maunganui |
Two Captains for One Series
Shubman Gill, the World No. 1 ODI batter, leads India in the first three games. Shreyas Iyer then takes over for the last two. He is the full-time T20I captain, but he has not led India in ODIs before. His ODI captaincy debut comes on November 13.
Rohit and Kohli Are Back
Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli return to the 50-over side and will play all five matches. Jasprit Bumrah is rested for this away series, and Prasidh Krishna is ruled out. That opens a spot for Auqib Nabi in the first three games.
India Squads
For the first three matches, India picks Shubman Gill (captain), Shreyas Iyer (vice-captain), Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, KL Rahul (wicketkeeper), Ishan Kishan (wicketkeeper), Axar Patel, Naman Dhir, Anshul Kamboj, Gurnoor Brar, Ruturaj Gaikwad, Arshdeep Singh, Mohammed Siraj, Kuldeep Yadav, Auqib Nabi, and Nitish Kumar Reddy, who is there for the first ODI only.
For the last two matches, Iyer is captain and Ishan Kishan is vice-captain and wicketkeeper. Tilak Varma, Kumar Kushagra, and Yash Thakur join the group. Rohit, Kohli, Axar, Dhir, Nabi, Brar, Gaikwad, Arshdeep, Siraj, and Kuldeep stay on.
New Zealand Have Their Own Problems
Mitchell Santner captains a split squad. On Monday, November 2, Rachin Ravindra and Mark Chapman were ruled out through injury. Tim Seifert and Henry Nicholls replaced them. The red ball players leave after the third ODI to prepare for the Test series starting November 19.
The squad for the first three games includes Santner, Michael Bracewell, Devon Conway, Jacob Duffy, Matt Fisher, Matt Henry, Kyle Jamieson, Tom Latham (wicketkeeper), Daryl Mitchell, Henry Nicholls, Glenn Phillips, Tim Seifert, Nathan Smith, Blair Tickner, and Will Young.
For the last two games, the squad is Santner, Finn Allen, Bracewell, Kristian Clarke, Duffy, Fisher, Lockie Ferguson, Mitch Hay (wicketkeeper), Nick Kelly, Seifert (wicketkeeper), Tickner, and Young.
History Is Not on India’s Side
India have won only four of their 11 ODIs at Eden Park against New Zealand, and they lost by seven wickets there in 2022. They also lost 1 to 2 in the last ODI series between these teams, played at home in January 2026. That gives the visitors a good reason to want revenge.
Predicted XIs for the First ODI
India’s predicted side is Gill (captain), Rohit, Kohli, Gaikwad or Iyer, Rahul (wicketkeeper), Dhir, Axar, Nitish Kumar Reddy, Arshdeep, Siraj, and Kuldeep.
New Zealand’s predicted side is Conway, Young, Ravindra, Mitchell, Latham (wicketkeeper), Phillips, Bracewell, Santner (captain), Henry, Jamieson, and Duffy. That list still names Ravindra, which conflicts with the injury news, so wait for the official team sheet.
Where to Watch in India
The series is live on the Sony Sports Network, and you can stream it on the SonyLIV app and website.
What to Watch For
The big questions are simple. Can Gill handle the first three games, and how will Iyer manage his first ODI captaincy? And can Rohit and Kohli control the middle overs on bigger grounds? Early mornings in India mean a good cup of tea and plenty of cricket.

The first ODI starts at Eden Park, Auckland, on November 4 at 7:30 AM IST.
