Nelson’s upcoming Tamil film, ‘Jailer’, is a black comedy-action movie produced by Sun Pictures, with Rajinikanth playing the lead role. The star-studded cast includes Mohanlal, Jackie Shroff, Shiva Rajkumar, Sunil, Ramya Krishnan, Vinayakan, Mirnaa Menon, and Tamannaah Bhatia.

The movie was formally revealed in February 2022 under the working name Thalaivar 169, marking Rajinikanth’s 169th film. However, in June, the official title Jailer was disclosed. Shooting commenced in Chennai in August 2022 and concluded in June 2023. The musical score is crafted by Anirudh Ravichander, with Vijay Kartik Kannan and R. Nirmal responsible for cinematography and editing. Jailer is set to premiere on August 10, 2023.

In May 2022, there were indications of Kannada actor Shiva Rajkumar’s involvement in a significant role. The confirmation came the following month, marking Shiva Rajkumar’s Tamil cinema debut. Vasanth Ravi’s participation was confirmed in early August, followed by Ramya Krishnan on August 10, and Malayalam actor Vinayakan on August 23.
Yogi Babu’s association with the film was speculated in July 2022 and later confirmed on August 24, 2022, by Sun Pictures. On January 6, 2023, it was revealed that Mohanlal would make a cameo appearance. Nearly two weeks later, Sunil and Tamannaah Bhatia were added to the cast. In February 2023, Jackie Shroff’s involvement was announced.
