How Ramayana Part 1 Builds to the Climax
The final stretch of Part 1 begins with the Shurpanakha episode in the forest. After Raavan’s sister is humiliated by Lakshman, Raavan decides to take revenge on Ram and plans to take Sita away from him.
He sends Maricha, who takes the form of a beautiful golden deer, to the forest where Ram, Sita and Lakshman are living. Sita asks Ram to catch the deer for her, and Ram goes after it, leaving Lakshman to protect her. Soon, Lakshman is also forced to leave, and he draws a protective line around the hut before going.
Sita’s Abduction by Raavan
With both brothers gone, Raavan arrives disguised as a hermit asking for alms. He tricks Sita into stepping out of the protective line drawn by Lakshman and then reveals his true form. Raavan carries Sita away towards Lanka, and the story reaches its darkest point.
This is the moment the whole first film has been building towards, and it gives Raavan, played by Yash, his most powerful scene in the film.
Jatayu’s Final Moments
As Raavan flies away with Sita, the old and brave Jatayu, voiced by Anupam Kher, tries to stop him. The battle between Jatayu and Raavan is one of the most spectacular action scenes of the film. But Jatayu is no match for Raavan, who overpowers him and cuts off his wings.
When Ram and Lakshman return and find Sita missing, they search the forest and find the dying Jatayu. With his last breath, Jatayu tells them that Raavan has taken Sita and points them in the direction he went.
Ram’s Vow: How Part 1 Ends
Ram performs Jatayu’s last rites himself, honouring him the way a son would honour his father. It is one of the most emotional moments of the film, coming after Ram has already lost his home, his throne and now his wife.
At the pyre, Ram’s grief turns into determination. He takes a vow to find Sita and bring her back, and to defeat Raavan. Part 1 ends here, with Ram knowing who has taken Sita, but still far away from reaching her.
So, does Ram find Sita in Ramayana Part 1? No. The reunion, and the battle with Raavan, are saved for Part 2.
Ramayana Post-Credit Scene Explained
The film’s biggest surprise comes after the end credits start. While being carried to Lanka, Sita drops her jewellery along the way, hoping it will help Ram follow her trail. The post-credit scene shows these ornaments reaching Kishkindha, the kingdom of the Vanaras, where they are found by Sugriva.
The scene then introduces Sunny Deol as Lord Hanuman, flying across a golden sky towards the sun as the words “Sunny Deol as Hanuman” appear on screen and the Hanuman Chalisa plays in the background. Audiences in theatres have been breaking into chants of “Jai Shri Ram” during this moment. Some reports also say the scene gives a brief tease of Meghanad (Indrajit), Raavan’s son.

What Will Ramayana Part 2 Cover?
Since Part 1 ends with Sita’s abduction, Part 2 is expected to tell the second half of the epic, from the search for Sita to the final war in Lanka. Based on the Valmiki Ramayana, here is what Part 2 is expected to show.
1. The Search and the Alliance With Sugriva
Ram and Lakshman will continue their search for Sita and reach Kishkindha. Here, Ram is expected to meet Hanuman for the first time and form an alliance with Sugriva, the exiled Vanara king, whose brother Bali has taken over his kingdom. Hanuman becomes Ram’s greatest devotee, and the Vanara army joins Ram’s mission.
2. Hanuman’s Leap to Lanka
One of the most famous parts of the Ramayana is Hanuman’s giant leap across the ocean to Lanka to find Sita. He meets her in the Ashok Vatika, gives her Ram’s ring as a sign, and assures her that Ram is coming. Given the scale of Part 1, this is likely to be one of the biggest VFX moments of the sequel.
3. Lanka Dahan
After being captured in Lanka, Hanuman’s tail is set on fire by Raavan’s men. In one of the most iconic moments of the epic, he uses his burning tail to set Lanka ablaze before flying back to Ram. Fans are already excited to see how Sunny Deol brings this moment to life.
4. The Building of Ram Setu
To reach Lanka, Ram’s Vanara army builds a bridge across the ocean, known as Ram Setu. The march of the army and the construction of the bridge are expected to be among the grandest scenes of Part 2.
5. The Great War of Lanka
Part 2 is expected to end with the great war between Ram’s army and Raavan’s forces. This includes famous clashes such as Lakshman versus Meghanad (Indrajit), Hanuman bringing the Sanjeevani mountain to save Lakshman, the battle with Kumbhakarna, and the final showdown between Ram and Raavan.
Ramayana Part 2 Release Date
Ramayana: Part 2 is now reported to release on Diwali 2028. The sequel was first planned for Diwali 2027, but producer Namit Malhotra has reportedly said the extra time is needed to do justice to the story’s grand ending, including the war of Lanka.
Why the Ending Works
Instead of ending on a big battle, Part 1 ends on loss and a promise. Ram’s vow at Jatayu’s pyre gives the story an emotional pause, while the post-credit scene lifts the mood with Hanuman’s entry. It leaves audiences grieving with Ram, but also excited for what comes next.
