The Income Tax Department has launched a new facility to make ITR filing easier for taxpayers. With this, users can save money on hiring Chartered Accountants or lawyers. The department has released an Excel-based utility tool for ITR-1 (Sahaj) and ITR-4 (Sugam), allowing users to fill in their income details offline, without internet. They can validate the form and then upload it directly to the portal. This Excel utility makes filing income tax returns much easier.
To help salaried taxpayers and small business owners, a new offline utility tool has been launched. With this, salaried individuals can now file their income tax returns (ITR) on their own, without any expert help.
What is this new utility tool?
It is a desktop software that allows users to prepare their ITRs without the need for internet access. It can be downloaded from the official Income Tax website. Users can fill in their details related to salary, house property, interest income, or business income. Once completed, the form generates a JSON file, which can then be uploaded to the e-filing portal. This tool is more efficient and user-friendly.

Easier Filing Experience
Thanks to the Excel utility, users no longer need to repeatedly enter data online. From the comfort of their homes and even without internet access, they can fill out all income details in advance and file the return in just one click later. This facility is especially beneficial for those who prefer to file their returns themselves.
The Income Tax Department has also extended the ITR filing deadline from 31st July to 15th September 2025, giving taxpayers two extra months to complete their filings.
