If Your Hair Is Turning Grey at 30, Add These 4 Foods to Your Diet for Nourishment and a Youthful Look

Hair greying is a natural process that typically begins between the ages of 35 and 40. However, some people experience premature greying due to poor diet, increased stress, nutritional deficiencies, genetics, hormonal imbalances, and excessive use of chemical-based hair products. Nowadays, both men and women are increasingly worried about early greying. Many rely on chemical-based hair dyes, but these can cause irritation and side effects on both the skin and hair.

Why Does Hair Turn Grey Early?

According to pharmacist and nutritionist Paula Martin Claires, deficiencies in iron, zinc, copper, vitamin B12, folate, vitamin C, vitamin D, or selenium contribute to premature hair greying. A lack of these essential nutrients can make hair dry, lifeless, and prone to greying. Instead of using chemical dyes, experts recommend a natural approach by including nutrient-rich foods in your diet. Consuming vitamin C-rich foods, such as Indian gooseberry (amla), can help nourish hair and promote natural darkening.

By making simple dietary changes, you can protect your hair from premature greying. Here are four budget-friendly foods that can naturally help maintain dark and healthy hair:

    1. Carrots

Carrots are packed with beta-carotene and vitamin A, which strengthen hair roots and promote natural hair darkening. These nutrients nourish the hair and prevent premature greying. Carrots are also rich in antioxidants that help reduce oxidative stress, a major cause of hair greying. Regular consumption of carrots improves blood circulation in the scalp, ensuring essential nutrients reach the hair follicles.

    2. Broccoli

Broccoli contains vitamin C, vitamin B5, and vitamin A—key nutrients that prevent early greying. Vitamin C neutralizes free radicals that contribute to greying, while vitamin B5 supports melanin production, which helps maintain natural hair colour. Vitamin A in broccoli keeps the scalp moisturized and strengthens hair roots.

    3. Nuts

Nuts such as almonds, walnuts, cashews, and Brazil nuts are rich in copper, which plays a crucial role in melanin production, preventing premature greying. The vitamin E and antioxidants in nuts protect hair from damage caused by free radicals. Additionally, omega-3 fatty acids found in nuts provide deep nourishment to hair roots, keeping them strong and healthy. For the best results, soak a handful of nuts in water overnight and consume them daily.

    4. Lentils

Lentils like moong dal, masoor dal, chickpeas, and kidney beans are excellent sources of iron and folic acid. Iron deficiency is a common cause of premature greying, while folic acid helps in cell regeneration and promotes hair growth. Including lentils in your diet ensures proper blood circulation to the scalp, helping to maintain the natural colour and strength of your hair.

By incorporating these nutrient-rich foods into your daily diet, you can slow down the greying process and keep your hair healthy, strong, and naturally dark for longer.
