Don’t Worry If You Get a Wrong Traffic Challan – These 3 Methods Can Help You Cancel It

    Traffic challan

Sometimes, even when you haven’t broken any traffic rules, you still receive a challan (traffic fine) message on your phone. This can happen due to errors in CCTV camera detection, your vehicle number being similar to another one, or even a mistake by the traffic police.

The good news is, if the challan has been issued wrongly, you can get it cancelled without paying any fine. You just need to follow the correct process. Here’s how you can challenge a wrong challan and get it cancelled:

    1. File a Complaint Online

In today’s digital age, you can dispute a challan from the comfort of your home.

    • Visit the eChallan Parivahan website.
    • Click on the “Dispute” or “Complain” option.
    • Enter the challan number, vehicle number, and your mobile number.
    • Upload proof like a screenshot of the camera error, your location evidence, a photo of your vehicle, or a copy of your RC (Registration Certificate).
    • Submit your request and wait for the response.

If your complaint is found valid, the challan will be cancelled automatically.

    2. Register a Complaint Offline

If you’re not comfortable filing an online complaint, you can visit your local traffic police station.

    • Submit your complaint in writing.
    • Carry a copy of the challan, your vehicle documents, and a valid ID.
    • You can also call the helpline for assistance.
For example, Delhi Traffic Police helpline numbers:
      • Toll-free: 1095
      • Landline: 011-2584-4444
    • You can also send an email.
      For Delhi: info@delhitrafficpolice.nic.in
(Note: Each state has a different email and helpline. Visit your state’s traffic police website for accurate details.)

    3. Appeal in Court

If the above two methods don’t resolve your issue, you can approach the court.

    • File a Traffic Challan Dispute Application in the concerned court.
    • Carry all relevant documents like your challan copy, RC, photographs, and ID proof.
    • During the hearing, present your explanation and evidence.

If the court finds your claim valid, the challan will be cancelled. Though this process may take some time, it is effective.

Bonus Option: Appeal in Lok Adalat

If you want a quicker solution without going through court hassles, Lok Adalat (People’s Court) is a great option.

    • No lawyer is required.
    • The process is fast and doesn’t involve extra charges.
    • Check the date and location of the next Lok Adalat in your state.
    • Carry the challan copy, vehicle documents, and ID.
    • Present your case before the traffic officer and judicial authority.

If your argument is strong and supported by evidence, the challan may be cancelled or the fine may be reduced.

By using any of these methods, you can challenge and possibly cancel a wrongly issued traffic challan without stress.
