Many of us are fully aware that what a kidney does and how it functions, but there are a few people who are not aware of the functionality of kidneys. Kidneys are an important part of our body as they remove waste, filters blood, and balance all the fluids. Nowadays, you will find a lot number of kidney patients or people having bad kidneys all over the world which is caused by diabetes, high blood pressure, alcoholism, or HIV infections. That’s why people suffering from kidney damage have to follow different dietary plans, and it depends upon the stage you are in. The following is the list of 7 food items that you should exclude from your diet if you have kidney problems.

    1. Whole Wheat Bread

People who are suffering from kidney problems should take extra care of themselves and must be aware of the ingredients of the food they are eating. Whole wheat bread is rich in high fiber content and it is high in phosphorus and potassium. Accordingly, 30 grams of serving contains as much as 58mg of phosphorus and 70mg of potassium.

      1. Brown Rice

The best way to consume brown rice is to balance it with other foods that are not highly rich in potassium and phosphorus, as brown rice is high in potassium and phosphorus. One cup of it contains 149 mg of phosphorus and 155 mg of potassium.

      1. Soda

It is really hard to resist by saying no to soda when you visit a party or a function. Without soda, a party looks incomplete. Still, it is highly recommended to people having kidney problems, avoid it as much as you can because it contains phosphorus and it will do no good for your kidneys. In a 200ml of serving, most sodas contain 50-100 mg of phosphorus.Healthy Food Options With Alcohol That Won’t Ruin Your Diet

        1. Bananas

Everyone loves eating bananas. But, it’s a pity for those people who have bad kidneys because apart from being rich in iron, bananas are also highly rich in potassium content which can make the kidneys worse for a kidney patient. It is not possible for people to continue consuming a banana every day or include it in their diet as it contains 422 mg of potassium.

        1. Dairy

Many of us have been fed dairy products like milk and curd by our parents when we were small and now it is still a part of our daily diet. But kidney patients have to compromise here too in order to keep themselves healthy as dairy products also contain potassium and phosphorus which can pull calcium from the bones and will result in a weak bone structure.Lactose Intolerance: Causes, Symptoms and Treatment

        1. Tomatoes

Tomatoes are another everyday staple that is highly demanded and used in Indian cuisines. You cannot simply avoid tomatoes when making ‘dal’, but here too people with bad kidneys always have to find an alternative that will not require tomatoes as they are highly rich in potassium. 1 cup of tomato sauce contains approximately 900 mg of potassium. Roasted red pepper sauce is an excellent alternative to tomato sauce.

          1. Potatoes

Potatoes also contain potassium around 610 mg in a medium-sized potato but it does not mean that a person should completely avoid eating it because there is an alternative to eat, that is, cut potatoes into small pieces and boil them for 10 minutes so that the potassium content is reduced by 50%.
