Black Doves Season 2 is streaming on Netflix from today, November 5, with all six episodes available at once. Keira Knightley and Ben Whishaw are back, and the finale leaves enough open threads that fans are already asking the big question: will there be a Season 3?
Has Netflix renewed it?
Not yet. Netflix has not made any official announcement. That is not unusual this early, since the streamer usually waits to see how many people watch and how many stay until the end.
There is encouraging news, though. Season 1 arrived in December 2024 and was renewed before it even premiered, so Netflix clearly believes in the show. This time, creator Joe Barton spoke on the Pilot TV podcast, released on November 2. He said a writers’ room already exists for a possible third season and that Netflix has been very supportive. He also admitted that everyone is at the mercy of market forces, so nothing is guaranteed.
Barton also gave a small hint about the future. He said that if Season 3 happens, the backstories of Eleanor and Williams are still up for grabs. He added that there is more to explore about Helen and Sam’s pasts, and that the team has even filmed some backstory that has not made it into the show yet.
How does Season 2 end?
The season starts with the deaths of several Black Doves agents, tied to a Berlin operation from 1988 that went badly wrong. That operation involved Reed, played by Sarah Lancashire, who was undercover inside an activist group called Kestrel. The truth about those events comes out over the season, and it leads to a big showdown.
The villain turns out to be Vita, Reed’s daughter, who built Kestrel back up with one goal: bring down the Black Doves. Her plan was to frame the organisation for terrible crimes and force Helen into an impossible choice involving her own husband, the Prime Minister. Helen, with help from Sam, Laila, Williams and Eleanor, manages to stop it. Vita dies in the process, but not before one last conversation with her mother.

What could Black Doves Season 3 look like?
A few things look likely based on how the story closes.
The Black Doves need rebuilding. The organisation has lost many people, and Reed and Mr. Conteh are left at the top. They have to rebuild fast.
Helen’s role is changing. She asks for a promotion and wants to be seen as an equal to Reed and Conteh. Reed accepts, which suggests Helen will be more involved in running things.
Kestrel is not finished. Patrick is still alive, and one report says he warns Helen that more trouble is coming. That makes Kestrel the most obvious threat for another season, and it could turn the story into a war between two rival organisations.
Wallace and the truth. The finale is about Wallace and Helen’s secret life. How he reacts will matter a lot, and there is also the MI5 investigation into Helen to deal with.
Sam is far away, for now. He ends up in Italy, but it feels like a short break, not a permanent exit.
What do we predict?
One outlet that covers renewals, The Review Geek, expects Netflix to bring the show back. Their reasoning is the writers’ room and the open ending. That is a prediction, not news, and the final decision will depend on how Season 2 performs. If it does return, it would likely follow the same six-episode format.
For now, the best thing fans can do is watch the new season and spread the word.
