Diwali is a good time for songs, family, and a bit of fun, and SonyLIV seems to know it. Hiphop Tamizha Adhi’s Meesaya Murukku 2 begins streaming on Friday, November 6, 2026, right before the festival. It hit theatres on September 25, so if you missed it on the big screen, you now have an easy second chance.
Where can you watch Meesaya Murukku 2?
The film streams on SonyLIV. Along with the original Tamil version, you can watch dubbed versions in Telugu, Malayalam, Kannada, and Hindi. SonyLIV announced the date on social media with a line about a “vibe full Diwali,” which sets the mood nicely.
What is the story about?
The film follows Jeeva, a talented young gaana singer who wants to take the music from his streets to a much bigger audience. He wants to protect the unique sound of gaana while bringing it to the wider world. That is not easy, and he carries a lot of family history on his shoulders.
His family has a long musical past. The story starts in Mylapore in 1979, where Dass, a gaana singer, dreams of changing how people link his community with violence. He hopes to spread thought and joy through music, but his path is full of obstacles. The film then jumps to 2026, where Jeeva slowly learns about his grandfather’s dreams and his father’s struggles. In simple words, one generation’s dreams were blocked by a rigid social order, and another’s were hurt by the hard realities of life.
Along the way, there is romance and a bit of drama. Jeeva falls for Laila, a dance teacher, and a producer’s son also takes an interest in her. A clash follows, which pushes Jeeva to dig deeper into his family’s story. His close friend Harshath is also by his side.
Who is in the cast?
Hiphop Tamizha Adhi directs the film and also plays several roles, which helps link the different timelines. Ketika Sharma plays Laila and is making her Tamil debut. Harshath Khan plays Jeeva’s friend. Karunas and Baba Baskar play older members of the family.
The film is also seen as a spiritual successor to the 2017 hit Meesaya Murukku.
What did critics say?
The reaction was mixed, but not harsh. ETimes gave it three out of five stars. The review praised how the film uses YouTube personalities, calling it a smart way to give audiences cheering moments, and also liked the catchy songs. It added that the film knows exactly what young viewers want and delivers a fun theatre experience. Another report says critics were more divided, though the film still did well commercially, especially in Tamil Nadu.
So the safe way to think about it is this. It is a youthful, energetic, and music-heavy film, and it does not try to be deep. If you enjoy that kind of entertainer, you will probably have a good time.
