In its statement, Tenerife said the club was “heartbroken, with a lump in our throats and unable to believe this is true.” The club added, “There are no words of comfort; there is absolutely nothing that can alleviate this profound sense of sadness.”

Red Card for Andorra Goalkeeper Jesús Owono
The referee showed Owono a straight red card for what was described as a sudden, high-kicking challenge using excessive force. The goalkeeper has not made any public statement yet. Journalist Iván Álvarez said on COPE that Owono is deeply affected and wants to apologise to the family privately before speaking publicly.
Some Spanish reports have raised the question of whether the case could be looked at legally, but no criminal investigation has been confirmed. The red card is a sporting punishment and is separate from any legal process.
Family Was in the Stands
De Miguel’s partner María and their 16-month-old daughter Carla were watching from the stands when the collision happened. His parents travelled from mainland Spain to Tenerife on Monday night to be with him in hospital. The family has thanked everyone for their support and asked for “maximum respect for their privacy.”

Football World Pays Tribute
Barcelona, Real Madrid, FC Andorra, CD Castellón and LaLiga president Javier Tebas were among those who sent condolences. Real Madrid held a minute of silence before training. The Spanish players’ association AFE said, “His loss leaves a huge void among those of us who shared his passion for football. Rest in peace, comrade.”
The Spanish Football Federation postponed Tuesday’s Copa del Rey and Copa de la Reina matches, and Espanyol postponed the presentation of their new head coach as a mark of respect.
Born in Madrid in 1996, De Miguel came through the youth system at CD Leganés and played for clubs including Fuenlabrada, Unionistas de Salamanca and CD Castellón before joining Tenerife in July 2025, where he helped the club win promotion to LaLiga 2.
