Ultraman Rising Review: A Stellar Blend of Tradition and Innovation

In this 44th installment of the iconic Ultraman franchise, director Shannon Tindle brings a fresh perspective to the beloved superhero. Co-produced by Netflix Animation and Tsuburaya Productions, “Ultraman: Rising” seamlessly blends 3D animation with the hand-drawn look of manga and anime.

Premise: Ken Sato (voiced by Christopher Sean), a famous but egotistical baseball player, lives a secret life as the giant superhero Ultraman. When he reluctantly adopts a baby kaiju after defeating her mother, he’s forced to balance his career and hero duties. The film explores themes of responsibility, sacrifice, and unexpected connections.

Animation and Style: The visuals are a treat for fans. Industrial Light & Magic’s animation captures the essence of Ultraman while infusing it with a fresh, stylized approach. The two-dimensional aesthetic pays homage to manga, creating a unique visual language.
