Black, white, and green teas average anywhere from 14-61 milligrams of caffeine per serving. Although it’s not as much as a cup of coffee (about 96 milligrams per cup), it can still knock your body’s natural circadian rhythm off balance. Tea or coffee can knock off our daily rhythm balance from light, stress, work, and caffeine.

You may increase your risk of esophageal cancer.

Drinking hot tea has been linked to esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (or esophageal cancer). In a study in Northern Iran, 300 histologically proven cases of esophageal squamous cell carcinoma, Nearly all (98%) of the cohort participants drank black tea regularly, with a mean volume consumed of over one liter a day.

You may decrease your iron levels

Studies show that those with anemia or any other type of iron-related deficiency may want to think twice before drinking tea. Both black and green tea have been proven to limit iron bioavailability by up to 94%.

You may have to use the bathroom more often

Diuretics are substances that lead to frequent urination. Black tea and green tea are considered diuretics. Although peeing is good for your system, too much can cause damage to your kidney.

    You may experience constipation

Tea and coffee contain a compound called theophylline. Consuming theophylline from tea can lead to gastrointestinal disturbances. It can also cause constipation and nausea.

Although there are side effects, it does not mean you should give up on drinking tea entirely. Consuming tea in minimal quantities is recommended for more benefits and fewer side effects.
