HRH Prince Bandar bin Khalid al-Faisal, chairman of the Jockey Club of Saudi Arabia, emphasized its significance, declaring it a milestone for Saudi Arabian horse racing and a testament to their commitment to the sport’s advancement on the world stage.
The weekend extravaganza, dubbed a social highlight of the season in the Saudi capital, commences with an eight-race lineup on Friday, featuring the Invest Saudi International Jockey Challenge trophy contested by fourteen jockeys. Saturday’s main event promises the spectacle of top thoroughbreds competing in the Saudi Cup amidst a nine-race program, attracting attention and excitement from around the globe.
Scheduled strategically between the Pegasus World Cup in Florida and the Dubai World Cup, the Saudi Cup occupies a pivotal place in the racing calendar, allowing ample time for horses to compete in each prestigious event. Its timing coincides with the buzz surrounding the Cheltenham Festival, a highlight in British racing. Elevated to Group 1 status in 2022, last year’s edition saw Panthalassa emerge victorious, marking a triumphant end to its racing career alongside jockey Yutaka Yoshida.
