Passengers in Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) buses can now purchase tickets using the National Common Mobility Card (NCMC). Initially, this facility was introduced as a trial in buses from the Rajghat and Hasanpur depots, and after a successful implementation, it is now being planned for all DTC buses.
Benefits of Cashless Travel
Passengers will no longer need to carry loose change for tickets. With fares deducted directly from the card, transactions will become more transparent and save time. Additionally, passengers using digital payments will receive a 10% discount on fares, helping daily commuters save on travel expenses every month.
How Will It Work?
Conductors in DTC buses will be equipped with Electronic Ticket Issuing Machines (ETIM). Once the passenger’s destination is entered, the fare amount will be displayed, and passengers can then tap their NCMC card to make the payment. This card is already being used for Delhi Metro and Namo Bharat trains, and now it will be valid for DTC buses as well.
This system will be implemented in 3,800 DTC buses, benefiting over 3.5 million passengers daily. The transport department believes that digital payments will enhance fare collection transparency and eliminate issues related to cash handling.

Digital Monitoring for Better Services
To improve bus monitoring, the transport department is developing a digital tracking system. A mobile app will provide real-time bus locations, helping manage traffic congestion in case of breakdowns. If a bus breaks down, conductors can immediately log in to the app and report the issue to the control room, ensuring better service for passengers and improving overall DTC operations.
