Tips to Avoid Hotel Bed Bugs When Travelling

It can be tricky to avoid pests when staying at hotels on vacation. Among these pests, bed bugs are the most common culprits. These bugs are quite small and very difficult to get rid of. Luckily, we’ve provided some helpful tips to help you spot and prevent them.

Tips to Avoid Hotel Bed Bugs When Travelling

    Where These Pests are Found

In addition to causing negative reputations for hotels, bed bugs can be a serious threat to your health. They are parasitic, feeding on human blood and warm-blooded animals, and can be a potential carrier of human pathogens.

Due to their small size and tendency to spread easily, they are a common problem in both five-star hotels and seedy motels. Their size allows them to hide in tiny wall cracks, furniture, and even in loose wallpaper.

If you are worried that you may have bed bugs in your hotel room, inspect the room as soon as possible. This is especially important if you are sharing a room with someone else. If you suspect that there are bugs in your room, ask the owner or manager to change your room immediately.

Bed bugs prefer to nest in humid areas. Usually found within bedding and carpets in rooms, they can travel by climbing onto guests’ suitcases, allowing the bugs to easily infest other locations. If you suspect that you have an infestation, contact an experienced pest manager to get the bugs removed.

You should inspect your clothes, suitcases, and other belongings for the bugs. If you suspect the bugs, place all of these items in a sealed plastic bag. Then, dry them on high heat for 20 minutes.

Another way to detect bed bugs is to use a flashlight. This can be especially helpful if you are having trouble seeing in dark places.

    Young Bed Bugs

The young bed bug, also known as a nymph, is a tiny bedbug that is almost invisible to the naked eye. Their bodies are about the size of a small grain of rice. They look translucent and are light in color.

They are found in beds and upholstered furniture such as couches and chairs. Some pest control companies recommend that you have your furniture moved, so that you can spot and treat bed bugs before they become an infestation.

    Bites and Appearance

They tend to bite in rows, resulting in itchy welts on the skin. These welts can be raised and red.

The bites of bed bugs are larger than flea bites. However, their saliva can cause allergic responses in people. They can also cause skin infections. The bites of a bed bug look similar to a mosquito bite. They can also be accompanied by intense itching. In addition, they can develop into distinctive wheals.

Bed bugs are often mistaken for ticks. The difference between the two is that bed bugs feed on a host, rather than on animals. This can lead to itchy skin infections, and some people develop sensitivity to the saliva after a few bites.

A female bed bug can lay up to 500 eggs during her lifetime. She does this by laying eggs on surfaces near her host. These eggs are about the size of a pinhead.

They are Extremely Hard to Get Rid of

If you travel frequently, you should know that hotel bed bugs are a problem that can be hard to control. Getting rid of them isn’t easy, but there are steps you can take to protect yourself and your possessions.

The first step is to inspect your room for signs of an infestation. You can do this by looking for any signs of blood stains or eggs.

If you find any signs, ask to move to a different room. It’s also important to look under your bed, in the seams and under the bed sheets, and underneath any furniture.

You should also check any mattresses and box springs. If you see anything, call the management. It’s best to keep your belongings in plastic bags.

It’s always important to vacuum the floors and carpeting, as this can help kill any bed bugs which may be lurking in your hotel room.

To avoid bed bugs from invading your luggage, you should always bring a suitcase that’s elevated. If you don’t have a suitcase, you can hang your clothes in the closet.

If you find bed bugs, and you are not able to get rid of them yourself, you can try to get a refund from the hotel.

Fortunately, there are many non-chemical methods for controlling bed bugs, such as a good mattress encasement and frequent laundry. However, some of these measures are only effective when the bug population is low.

Don’t Let the Bed Bugs Bite

One of the best things you can do to prevent bed bugs is to be sure to take precautions before you leave your home. You should be prepared to clean and disinfect items before you travel.

Be sure to use an odourless sealant on the bed frame and other hard surfaces that have bug hiding spots. You may also want to check around baseboards and headboards for evidence of bed bugs. It’s best to use a small flashlight to help you locate these bugs.

If you think you may have been bitten by a bed bug while on your trip, it’s a good idea to use a flashlight to inspect your clothing and luggage. You’ll probably need to get out of the room for a while, but it’s the only way to guarantee that you’re free from bed bugs.

If you’re bitten, the first thing you should do is change your clothing. In addition, you should wash your clothing with hot water. You’ll also want to place your luggage in a bathtub, and then dry it on high heat for 30 minutes.
