Now, people will not have to visit different offices to update their name, address, or mobile number in Aadhaar, PAN, Voter ID, Driving License, etc. The central government is preparing to implement the Unified Digital Identity System. Through a new portal being developed, people will be able to update their information like address or mobile number at one place. The changes will be automatically updated across all major identity documents.
How will this portal work?
The portal is being designed to integrate all key identity documents such as Aadhaar, PAN, Driving License, and Passport. To update information, users will need to log into the portal and select the appropriate option – for example, a separate option to change the mobile number and another to change the address. Relevant documents will have to be uploaded. Updates will reflect across all identity documents within three working days.
How to get the new updated identity card?
There will be an option on the portal to apply for a new identity card after the changes. Users will have to pay a fee and submit the application through the portal.
- The new identity card with updated information will be delivered to people’s homes by post within seven working days.
- Those who prefer to collect their updated ID cards from the office will also have an option.
- After selecting the preferred option, users will be informed via mobile about the date and time when they can receive their updated identity card.

Currently on trial run, to launch soon
According to officials, the system is currently undergoing a trial run. Some technical and legal issues were being resolved, mainly focusing on creating a foolproof system to secure data, which is now in the final stages.
So far, over 92% accuracy has been achieved in the trial runs. Once 98% or higher accuracy is achieved, the system will be launched for testing. A few months after the test phase, the portal will be officially launched for public use, meaning it could start soon. The portal’s name has not yet been finalized; it will be decided after the final round of testing.
