People in India will soon be able to access satellite internet services. Elon Musk’s company, Starlink, is all set to launch its services in the country. According to a report by The Economic Times, the company plans to introduce a promotional unlimited data plan priced under $10 per month (around ₹840).

However, Starlink is still waiting for approval from IN-SPACe to officially begin its operations in India. The company aims to rapidly grow its user base in the country and is targeting up to 10 million users in the medium to long term.

Internet and Calling Without a Mobile Network

With Starlink’s satellite communication system, users will be able to make calls and access the internet without a traditional mobile network. This service will be especially beneficial for people living in remote and rural areas, where regular telecom connectivity is limited or unavailable. Satellite communication can help bridge the digital divide in such regions.

Starlink Services Active in Over 105 Countries

It’s worth noting that the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has proposed a monthly user fee of ₹500 for satellite communication services in urban areas. The low pricing model could significantly boost the number of satellite internet users in India.

Currently, Starlink offers its satellite broadband services in more than 105 countries worldwide. Recently, the company launched new satellites equipped with direct-to-cell capabilities, expanding its global coverage and connectivity options.
