India already operates semi-high-speed luxury Vande Bharat trains, which are popular for their speed and comfort. However, until now, there has been no sleeper version of this train. That is set to change soon, as Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw introduced the first Vande Bharat sleeper train in 2024. Though there’s no official launch date yet, the train is expected to start running on select routes shortly.
Route: New Delhi to Telangana’s Secunderabad
The Vande Bharat sleeper train will operate between New Delhi and Secunderabad in Telangana. Designed to run at a speed of 160 km/h, the train will cover a distance of 1,667 km in approximately 20 hours. It will be the third premium train on this route, following the Rajdhani Express and Duronto Express. This new sleeper version is specially designed for overnight travel, offering passengers a comfortable journey while they sleep.
Stops Along the Route
The train will start from New Delhi and stop at major stations including Agra Cantt, Gwalior, Jhansi, Bhopal, Itarsi, and Nagpur before reaching Secunderabad. It will consist of 16 coaches — 11 AC 3-tier coaches, 4 AC 2-tier coaches, and 1 AC first-class coach. Tentatively, the train will depart from New Delhi at 8:50 AM and reach Secunderabad by 8:00 PM the next day.
