    Fast During Maha Shivratri? Here Is A List Of Food Items You Can Have

    Maha Shivratri is one of the most important days for all Shiva devotees. The day is celebrated by singing bhajans and praying throughout the day. Moreover, the devotees begin preparations for this pooja from the previous day itself. 

    But, you might be wondering what makes Maha Shivratri different from the other Hindu festivals, right?

    This is because of the fast that the devotees keep throughout the day. Ever heard of “nirjala” fast? During the “nirjala” fast people do not drink water, let alone have food. 

    Due to this, nirjala fast is not for everyone. On the other hand, most of the devotees keep fast where they can have fruits, milk, and a few non-grain items. 

    Food You Can Have During Maha Shivratri

    Normally, during a fast cereals and regular salts are to be avoided. But, don’t worry, there are a few items that you can have during the fast. 




    You want to know more about the Maha Shivratri fast, and the food items that you can have during the day, read below. 

    Fruits

    One of the most basic items, you can have during Maha Shivratri is fruits. You can have every fruit item during this. However, you need to make sure that you do not consume salt with them. 

    Dry Fruits 

    Another item that you can have are dry fruits. They are a great source of energy. 

    Sweets 

    You can also have sweets of your own choice. Normally, the devotees prepare sweets, especially for Maha Shivratri. But, you can also buy sweets from your favourite place. 

    Sabudana

    Sabudana is another food time that is motley consumed during festivals. Do you know why? This is because sabudana is a good detoxifying agent, and provides immunity. 

    Furthermore, there are many ways you can have sabudana. 




    For people with a sweet tooth, you can prepare a sabudana kheer. Another way to have sabudana is to mix fruits of your choice with sabudana in a bowl. 

    Makhana 

    Makhana is another food item that is generally consumed during fasts. There are many ways you can have Makhana, either by preparing a makhana kheer or pudding.

    Potatoes

    Potatoes are one of the best food items that will keep your stomach full during the day. You can prepare any item with potatoes, but make sure not to use regular salt.
