    Maha Shivratri 2022: Everything You Need To Know

    Maha Shivratri is one of the most important Hindu festivals, celebrated for Lord Shiva. So, when is Maha Shivratri 2022 and what are the things that you should keep in mind for that. Let’s check now. 

    What Is Maha Shivratri?

    Maha Shivratri falls under the tithi of Chaturdarshi, in the month of Magha during Drik Panchang. Moreover, Maha Shivratri is a lunisolar according to the Hindu calendar.

    Generally, Maha Shivratri often falls during the month of February or March. It marks the end of the winter season and the beginning of the summer.

    Lord Shiva And Goddess Shakti 

    Lord Shiva signifies Purusha. Purusha means mindfulness. He is one of the five heavenly figures in the Hindu culture. 

    Lord Shiva is the destroyer of the universe. And his other half is Goddess Shakti. Goddess Shakti is also called Parvati. She is the symbol of nature.   

    The two heavenly deities together are considered as a symbol of love and devotion. This is because of their love for each other.




    Lord Shiva was first married to Goddess Sati. But, after her death he resided in a cave in Mount Kailash, mourning his wife’s loss. This showed Lord Shiva’s devotion to his wife. 

    But http://shivahe later remarried Goddess Parvati, who was the reincarnation of Goddess Sati. 

    Significance Of Maha Shivratri

    This day was when Lord Shiva and goddess Shakti united as one power. According to the Hindus, Maha Shivratri was the day when Lord Shiva and goddess Shakti married. 

    Additionally, it is also believed that on Maha Shivratri, Lord Shiva performed Tandav. Through this dance form, Lord Shiva spread happiness, mental strength, prosperity and many more. 




    If a devotee prays to Lord Shiva on this particular day, their sins can be forgiven. The devotees then begin a new journey of honesty and righteousness. 

    Devotees often fast during Maha Shivratri to please Lord Shiva.
