If you love romance stories that start with a lie, Prime Video has one ready for you. Drive: The Pretenders, a racing romance based on a popular online novel, arrives on October 28, 2026. It will stream exclusively on Prime Video worldwide, and the trailer is already out.
What is the story about?
The film is inspired by Tamara Lush’s Wattpad novel Drive. It follows Sarah Jenkins, a talented young mechanic who dreams of sitting in the driver’s seat herself. Her path crosses with Dante Annunziata, a famous racing star whose career is falling apart because of scandals and personal grief.
To fix his public image, a fake engagement is arranged. Sarah plays the loving fiancée in front of cameras and sponsors. In return, she gets a real chance to race. On paper, it is a smart deal. In reality, the lie starts to feel less like a game, and the feelings begin to get complicated. The makers describe it as an enemies-to-lovers story where the passion could end up destroying both of them.
Who is in the cast?
Lisa-Marie Koroll plays Sarah, and Amin Baahmed plays Dante. The two leads carry the emotional weight, and the story shifts from sharp, doubtful banter to something much softer.
The supporting cast includes Gustav Schmidt, Mišel Matičević, Lucie Heinze, Frederic Linkemann, Inka Friedrich, Jeanette Hain, Philippe Brenninkmeyer, Steven Gätjen, Pati Valpati and Leslie Malton. Most of these are well-known German names, which fits a film made by Bavaria Fiction with Amazon MGM Studios Germany.
Who is behind the film?
Sergej Moya directs the film. The screenplay is written by Christoph Silber and Malina Nnendi Nwabuonwor, and Karsten Günther is the producer. One report says the makers wanted real racing energy instead of just studio sets, and that filming took place at racetracks across Europe, including Germany and the Czech Republic, with Prague and the Amalfi Coast also appearing. The same report also mentions partnerships with Mercedes-AMG, Pirelli and ADAC to keep the racing world believable.
What does the Drive — The Pretenders trailer show?
The trailer mixes two very different worlds. In one, Sarah is in a messy garage with grease on her hands. In the other, she is dressed up for glamorous press events beside Dante. Between those scenes, you get rain-soaked tracks, tense rivalries, and plenty of romantic tension.
It looks polished and fast, and it gives you a good idea of the tone. This is a romance first, with racing as the exciting backdrop.
More to stream this week
October is packed with new releases, so your watchlist may be getting long. If you want something very different, a Netflix show about teenagers working at a messy pizza shop is already out, and our article on Minimum Wage Season 2 explains whether Netflix has renewed it yet.
Should you watch it?
If you enjoy fake relationship stories, enemies-to-lovers romance, and a bit of speed, this looks like an easy pick. It does not seem to be trying to reinvent the genre. It is built for people who love the idea of a pretend couple slowly falling for each other.
Drive — The Pretenders streams on Prime Video from October 28, 2026, so you can plan a cosy night in.
