Cop dramas are nothing new in Hindi cinema, but a cop who ends up in jail is a hook that still works. That is the idea behind Pratap, an action drama starring Amit Sadh and Esha Deol. The makers released the trailer on October 26, and it has already got people talking, though not everyone agrees on whether that is a good thing.
What does the Pratap trailer show?
Amit Sadh plays Pratap, a decorated encounter specialist who spent his career putting dangerous criminals away. Now he is the one behind bars. The trailer keeps cutting between two timelines, his days in uniform and his life in prison, with action scenes and tense face-offs in between.
What it does not do is explain how he got there. According to the official coverage, the reasons for his imprisonment are kept under wraps, and that gap is the main hook of the trailer. You are left asking what happened and who is responsible.
Cast and crew
Esha Deol plays a key role, and the supporting cast includes Seema Biswas, Tigmanshu Dhulia and Milind Gunaji. Sachin Saraf has written and directed the film. It is produced by Pradeep Rangwani and presented by UV Films.
What the team says
Amit Sadh described the film as not your usual cop story. He said he was drawn to a man who spent his life enforcing the law and then lands on the other side of it. Esha Deol said the story has several layers and is not as simple as it first looks. Director Sachin Saraf called it a film about choices, consequences and the thin line between right and wrong.
The critics are split
Not every reaction has been warm. One review calls the trailer dated, saying the story of an honest cop who goes to jail and fights the system feels like something from the 1990s. It compares Amit Sadh’s loud, intense style to the angry hero roles Sunny Deol made famous back then. The same review says the colour, music, and dialogue feel more like a mid-2000s action film than a 2026 release.
It does give Sadh credit for his commitment and calls him a powerful performer. But it feels the supporting actors, including Tigmanshu Dhulia and Seema Biswas, do not get enough room in the trailer.
Whether that is a problem depends on what you want. If you enjoy old-school action with big dialogues and strong emotions, this could be right up your street. If you are hoping for something new, the trailer may not be enough to convince you.
Speaking of angry heroes
If you like the idea of a hero taking on a broken system, you may also want to read our piece on the Suryaa teaser, where Sunny Deol himself aims at India’s medical system.
For something very different, there is the trailer for Akka, a Netflix series where women hold all the power, with heavy gold, sharp knives, and two rivals ready to destroy each other.
And if you are in the mood for a lighter family story after all that action, our Meethe Mein Kya Hai trailer review covers a Diwali reunion with far too many relatives and plenty of drama.
Should you wait for Pratap?
It depends on your taste. The trailer has a strong setup and a mystery at its centre, and it gives Amit Sadh a role with a lot of emotion. At the same time, the story looks familiar, and some critics are not convinced it brings anything new.
You will not have to wait long to decide. Pratap releases in cinemas on November 20, 2026.
