Shalini Passi Biography: The Art Patron Who Became a Reality TV Favourite

Shalini Passi occupies a fairly unique space in Indian public life. She is an art collector, philanthropist, and patron with deep roots in Delhi’s art and design world, but in recent years she has also become a familiar face on reality television, first through Fabulous Lives vs Bollywood Wives and now through The Traitors Season 2.

    Early Life and Education

Shalini was born in 1975 and grew up in New Delhi. She comes from a family with a strong background in architecture and construction. Her grandfather, who had migrated from Pakistan, built a construction business from the ground up and went on to construct some genuinely notable buildings in the city, including Vayu Bhavan, the DD office, and Palika Bazaar.

Growing up, Shalini often visited construction sites with her grandfather, who introduced her to blueprints by celebrated architect Raj Rewal. Architecture and design were regular dinner table conversations in her house, and her grandfather actively encouraged her to read books on the subject. Her father’s love for painting added another layer to her artistic upbringing, and even today, her personal style, including the way she drapes a sari, draws inspiration from paintings that have influenced her over the years.

She did her schooling at Modern School, Barakhamba Road, in New Delhi, and later studied at Jesus and Mary College. Interestingly, she was also a state-level gymnast in her youth, showing an early discipline that would carry into her later work.

    Career in Art Patronage

Shalini has built a serious reputation as a collector and patron of contemporary Indian and international art. Her personal collection includes works by respected names like Bharti Kher, Anita Dube, Sheba Chhachhi, Zarina Hashmi, and Atul Dodiya, alongside international artists such as Jeff Koons and Damien Hirst. She also owns pieces by celebrated Indian modernist masters like M.F. Husain, Manjit Bawa, and Ram Kumar.

Since 2012, she has served on the Advisory Board of Khoj, a nonprofit contemporary arts organization based in Delhi that supports experimental art across India and South Asia. She is also a known patron of the Kochi-Muziris Biennale, one of the most significant contemporary art exhibitions in the country.

In 2018, she founded the Shalini Passi Art Foundation along with the digital platform MASH India, both aimed at supporting emerging artists and exploring the intersections of art, design, fashion, and architecture. Her foundation regularly hosts events like the MASH Ball, which brings together art, fashion, and film under one roof.

    Public Recognition and Media Presence

Shalini’s home in Golf Links, Delhi, a sprawling 20,000 square foot mansion filled with rare art and design pieces, has been widely featured in publications like Wallpaper, Architectural Digest, and Larry’s List, cementing her reputation as one of India’s most distinctive art collectors.

In 2024, she stepped into a completely different kind of spotlight by joining the cast of Netflix’s Fabulous Lives vs Bollywood Wives Season 3, which introduced her to a far wider audience beyond art circles. She has since become known for her striking personal style and candid personality on screen, and she notably donated her salary from the show to a village in Bihar in November 2024.

    The Traitors Season 2

In 2026, Shalini Passi added reality competition television to her growing media presence by joining The Traitors Season 2 as a celebrity contestant. The show, hosted by Karan Johar and streaming on Prime Video, brings together a mix of actors, entrepreneurs, and public personalities for a game centered around trust, alliances, and deception.

Her transition from an observational reality format like Fabulous Lives vs Bollywood Wives into a strategy driven competition marked a notable shift in the kind of television she was taking on. She joined a packed cast that included Shweta Tiwari, Krystle D’Souza, Dalip Tahil, Mallika Sherawat, and Rhea Chakraborty, bringing her own distinctive presence and sense of drama to the game.

    Philanthropy

Beyond her work in the art world, Shalini has been involved in philanthropic efforts for years. Since 2010, she has supported arts and crafts workshops for underprivileged children in Delhi and has been closely associated with the Delhi Society for the Welfare of Special Children. She is also a supporter of UNICEF India.

In 2021, she and her husband donated ten crore rupees to the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams, and during the same year, she organized an online exhibition to raise funds for Covid relief efforts across the country.

    Personal Life

Shalini married Sanjay Passi, chairman and managing director of the PASCO Group, on March 25, 1996. The couple lives in Delhi and has a son named Robin. Sanjay’s business interests span several companies, including Pasco Hotels, Neemrana Developers, and various technology and infrastructure ventures.

In her free time, Shalini enjoys travelling to distant places and has cited style icons like Grace Kelly, Diane von Fürstenberg, Gayatri Devi, and Audrey Hepburn as personal inspirations. She is an animal lover and owns a pet dog that she frequently features on her social media.
