Shweta Tiwari Biography: The Television Icon Who Keeps Reinventing Herself

Shweta Tiwari has been a constant presence on Indian television for more than two decades. She is widely considered one of the highest paid actresses in the industry, and her career spans daily soaps, reality shows, films, and now, a fresh stint on a strategy based reality format that has put her back in the spotlight in a whole new way.

Early Life and Education

Shweta was born on October 4, 1980 in Pratapgarh, Uttar Pradesh, into a Hindu family. She did her schooling at St Isabel’s High School in Mumbai and later studied at Burhani College in Mazgaon, Mumbai, where she completed her B.Com degree.

Interestingly, Shweta started working quite young. She took up her first job at the age of 12 with a travel agency, earning a modest salary back then. Her interest in acting was strong even during her school years, and once she finished her graduation, she began auditioning for television serials, determined to make a career out of it.

Shweta made her television debut in 2000 with the show Aane Wala Pal. But it was her role as Prerna Sharma in Kasautii Zindagii Kay that truly changed everything for her. The show ran for close to eight years and became one of the most talked about daily soaps of its time.

Alongside television, Shweta built a decent filmography too, appearing in Hindi, Bhojpuri, and other regional films like Aabra Ka Daabra, Bin Bulaye Baraati, and even a Pakistani film called Sultanat in 2014. She made her web debut in 2019 with Hum Tum And Them.

In 2024, she took on a small but memorable role in the series Indian Police Force, playing a police officer’s wife opposite Vivek Oberoi, and critics noted that she left a lasting impression despite limited screen time. The same year, she appeared in the blockbuster film Singham Again as a police officer, a movie that went on to become one of the highest grossing Indian films of the year.

The Traitors Season 2

In 2026, Shweta Tiwari added yet another chapter to her long and varied career by joining The Traitors Season 2 as a celebrity contestant. The show, hosted by Karan Johar and streaming on Prime Video, brings together actors, comedians, entrepreneurs, and digital creators for a high stakes game built around trust, strategy, and deception.

Given her track record on reality television, from her Bigg Boss win to her stints on Khatron Ke Khiladi and Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa, Shweta stepping into The Traitors felt like a natural fit for fans who have followed her competitive streak over the years. Personal Life

Shweta’s personal life has had its share of struggles. She married actor Raja Chaudhary in 1999, and the couple had a daughter, Palak Tiwari, born in October 2000. The marriage turned troubled over time, with Shweta later revealing that she faced alcoholism and domestic violence from Raja. She filed for divorce in 2007, and it was finalized in 2012.

She married actor Abhinav Kohli in July 2013, and the couple welcomed a son, Reyansh Kohli, in November 2016. However, this marriage also ran into serious trouble. In August 2019, Shweta filed a domestic violence and molestation complaint against Kohli, alleging harassment towards both her and her daughter, and the two eventually separated.

Shweta’s parents are Ashok Kumar Tiwari and Nirmala Tiwari, and she has a brother named Nidhaan Tiwari. She enjoys dancing, reading, and drawing in her free time, and has spoken openly about her faith in Lord Ganesha.
