High-Intensity Exercise in Hot Weather Can Be Dangerous for Health: 5 Things to Keep in Mind

The temperature is rising day by day, which also affects workout routines. While walking, high-intensity exercises, and other outdoor activities can be stretched out during winter, the time limit for these activities tends to decrease in the summer. Sun exposure not only affects the skin but also overall health. Therefore, it is crucial to consider some do’s and don’ts before engaging in high-intensity exercise as temperatures rise. Here are some tips to keep in mind before doing high-intensity exercise in the heat and what to avoid.

Tips to Follow During High-Intensity Exercise:

    1. Stay Hydrated:
In summer, drink plenty of water to exercise for longer periods. If your workout session lasts more than 60 minutes, be sure to have a sports drink with you. This helps maintain energy levels in the body. Consuming fluids keeps potassium, sodium, and electrolytes in balance. However, drink water 30 minutes before the session or a little while after it ends.

    2. Avoid Outdoor Exercise:
Exercising outdoors in the hot sun during summer can be risky for your health. Experts suggest that drinking water in the middle of an exercise session can harm your health. Outdoor exercise can lead to dehydration, excessive sweating, and shortness of breath. Additionally, UV rays can be harmful to the skin, causing rashes, itching, and tanning.

    3. Wear Loose and Light-Colored Clothing:
During exercise, wear breathable and light-colored clothes. This helps alleviate the problem of excessive sweating and keeps the body healthy and active. Light-colored clothing allows for better air circulation, maintaining a normal body temperature and reducing the risk of bacterial infections.

    4. Consider Age and Stamina:
Age is a crucial factor for high-intensity exercise. Perform high-intensity exercises under the supervision of a trainer. Beginners should choose exercises based on their stamina and physical health. Exercising for too long can affect your heartbeat.

    5. Recognize Warning Signs:
If you feel thirsty, fatigued, or short of breath during exercise, take a break and rest for a while. Choose exercises according to your age to avoid muscle cramps.

By following these tips, you can enjoy your workouts safely even in the summer heat.
