Following U.S. President Donald Trump’s directive, visa interview appointment bookings have been halted, leading to a freeze on new student visas. This has left students planning to join U.S. universities for the Fall 2025 intake in a state of uncertainty and concern. Amid this situation, a Gulf nation is rising as a strong alternative to the U.S.—offering 100% scholarships, including full tuition fee waivers, to international students. Some of its institutions are even providing multi-country study options.
The country in focus is the United Arab Emirates (UAE). According to reports, universities in the UAE have seen a sharp rise in admission applications. As per Gulf News, several UAE institutions are not only offering scholarships but also attracting students with easier visa processes and global transfer opportunities. These universities are now targeting students who are reconsidering their plans to study in the U.S. and are actively seeking better alternatives.
Why Are Students Moving Away from Studying in the U.S.?
The Trump administration has stopped issuing new student visas, suspending visa interview appointment bookings. Without the mandatory interview, a visa cannot be granted. Moreover, the U.S. government wants to conduct social media checks of visa applicants before approval. In some cases, even students admitted to top institutions like Harvard have been denied visas. Although the court has temporarily blocked this decision, the uncertainty has discouraged many international students from choosing the U.S. for higher education.

Under this scheme, postgraduate students who demonstrate strong academic performance can receive up to 100% tuition fee waivers.
