UIDAI Extends Free Aadhaar Updates Deadline to December 14: Here’s What You Need to Know

Category-

The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has extended the deadline for free Aadhaar updates until December 14, 2024. This service, available through the official ‘My Aadhaar’ portal, allows users to update key details like name and address at no cost.

Originally set to end on June 14, 2024, the free update period has now been extended twice—first to September 14, and now to December 14. After this deadline, users will be required to pay a processing fee for any updates.

HOW TO UPDATE AADHAAR ONLINE

Updating your Aadhaar online is simple and convenient.

  1. Visit myaadhaar.uidai.gov.in.
  2. Log In: Use your Aadhaar number and authenticate via the one-time password (OTP) sent to your registered mobile number.
  3. Update Details: Choose the fields you wish to update (e.g., name, address) and upload the required documents.
  4. Submit & Track: Submit your request and save the Update Request Number (URN) to track the progress.

Note: Biometric updates, such as fingerprints, iris scans, or photographs, require a visit to the nearest Aadhaar center.

WHY IS AADHAAR IMPORTANT?

Aadhaar serves as proof of identity, address, and age for accessing a wide range of government services. It is also used for banking purposes as a KYC (Know Your Customer) document.

Additionally, Aadhaar simplifies processes like applying for a passport, as it can be used as a sole proof of residence and identity.

The Aadhaar Face Authentication feature also allows pensioners to generate Digital Life Certificates (DLC), or Jeevan Pramaan, from the comfort of their homes.

WHAT TO DO IF YOU LOSE YOUR AADHAAR NUMBER

  1. Online Retrieval: Use the ‘Retrieve Lost UID/EID’ service on the MyAadhaar Portal to recover your Aadhaar number.
  2. Call Helpline 1947: Speak to a contact center agent who can help retrieve your Enrolment ID (EID), which can then be used to download your Aadhaar.
  3. IVRS Service: Call 1947 and use the IVRS system to retrieve your Aadhaar number using your EID.

Make sure to update your Aadhaar details before the deadline to avoid additional charges!
