I didn’t ask for the blue check mark- it just showed up one day, so feel free to take it away. My peeps know it’s me.

What happens when a random user pays $8 and changes his Display Name to Elon Musk, using your same profile pic and starts tweeting like he's you?

Verified checkmarks exists so people know they follow the real person.

Won’t we just have a bunch of peasants with blue checks and $8 less?

Maybe make only businesses pay a fee to keep their blue check. Blue check individuals usually are adding value to platform with content/audiences. Charge businesses $80 a month to keep the check!

Way to dilute the blue tick verification. Real important people will leave, and take with them the users you need to justify the platform.
When businesses and media buy blue ticks, they will in turn try to monetise their tweets. Twitter will become a bill board.

So I can create an account with an celebrity name, pay 8$ and everyone will believe I am actually this person.

How on earth will this help in the fight against spam/impersonating on social media?

    Same for journalists:
No more verification who is reliable and who is not.
