Tu Jhoothi Main Makkaar Review: Ranbir Kapoor and Shraddha Kapoor compete to see who can duck the bullet first and avoid the guilt pangs of a bad breakup. The film’s second half and upbeat climax redeem its sluggish first half, transforming it into a worthy entertainer.

Tu Jhoothi Main Makkaar Cast: Ranbir Kapoor, Shraddha Kapoor, Anubhav Singh Bassi, Dimple Kapadia, Boney Kapoor and the ensemble.

Tu Jhoothi Main Makkaar Director: Luv Ranjan

Tu Jhoothi Main Makkaar Story: Rohan Malhotra (Ranbir Kapoor) is a Delhi boy from a family that represents everything North Indian. There’s the OTT mom (Dimple Kapadia), and the dadi who only speaks Punjabi and has wit to rival Birbal. The Malhotras are boisterous, loud, and unapologetic about their behaviour. Rohan makes money as a relationship expert who helps couples break up or fall in love. He believes he is the master of the game until he falls in love with Tinni (Shraddha Kapoor) at a lavish wedding in Spain. They sing songs, make out, and flaunt their chilled abs and sex appeal under the guise of rom-com demands. But, as with every Luv Ranjan film, their relationship status quickly shifts from committed to complicated.

Tu Jhoothi Main Makkaar Review

In TJMM, Ranbir struggles to keep up with the long monologues that have become a trademark of Ranjan’s films. You have to chase him down at times to keep up with his lines. Unlike Pyaar Ka Punchnama and Sonu Ke Titu Ki Sweety, the love story in this film is more complex and difficult to follow. The previous two films had a protagonist whose conflict and its resolution was pretty simple.

TJMM’s writing ranges from insanely funny (most of the second half climax) to awkwardly cringe-worthy (the family nokjhok of the first half). In fact, the second half picks up so well that you get the impression Ranjan has a new team of writers to flesh out the complex love story.

Ranbir Kapoor’s casanova act isn’t new, but his energy in every scene deserves a pat on the back. He meticulously shapes himself to become a part of the Luv Ranjan multiverse. I’m calling it a multiverse because it contains a complete crossover scene starring Ranjan’s favourite actors, Kartik Aaryan and Nushratt Bharuccha. Without giving too much away, we can say that Kartik and Nushratt’s scenes are a major highlight of the film.

Luv has long been accused of being harsh with his female protagonists, portraying them negatively. With Tu Jhoothi Main Makkaar, he shatters his image. His Tinni and Micky may not be the best people, but they are genuine. They’re unusually perfect and justified in their own right. Of course, the audience for a Sooraj Barjatya film may struggle to connect with her, but a modern young woman with her heart, mind, and sensibility in place might believe in her.

All in all, Tu Jhoothi Main Makkaar is an engaging and entertaining romantic comedy that deserves to be watched in the theatres.
