Remembering Khadim Batti: The Entrepreneur Who Built Whatfix from Scratch

Khadim Batti didn't just build a company, he built a way of doing things that a generation of founders will carry forward in his memory.

    Khadim Batti

The startup world lost one of its quiet, steady builders this week. Khadim Batti, Co-Founder and CEO of Whatfix, passed away at around 50 years of age, reportedly due to cardiac arrest. For anyone who has followed India’s SaaS story over the last decade, his passing leaves a genuine void.

Khadim wasn’t the kind of founder who chased headlines. He was the kind who chased problems worth solving, and he spent over a decade doing exactly that.

Khadim Batti built an Idea to a Global SaaS Company

In 2013, Khadim co-founded Whatfix along with Vara Kumar Namburu, with a simple but powerful idea: technology should adapt to people, not the other way around. What started as a modest digital adoption platform grew, under his leadership, into a company serving more than 700 enterprises worldwide, with a valuation that touched close to a billion dollars.

    Whatfix Founders

That kind of growth doesn’t happen by accident. It happens because of thousands of small, deliberate decisions made by someone who understood both the product and the people using it.

He was a leader, not just a founder

What made Khadim’s journey stand out wasn’t just the scale Whatfix reached, it was how he got there. Before Whatfix found its footing, he had already spent years building an earlier venture that didn’t work out. Rather than walking away from entrepreneurship, he went back to the drawing board, validated a new idea the hard way, sending hundreds of cold emails, closing his first customer before writing a single line of code and rebuilt from zero.

That willingness to start over, to learn from failure and try again, is something a lot of founders talk about. Khadim actually lived it.

Taking an Indian SaaS Company Global

One of his most notable achievements was proving that a SaaS company built out of India could compete and win on the global stage. Under his leadership, Whatfix expanded into the US market, raised significant venture funding, including backing from Warburg Pincus, and became one of the recognisable names to come out of India’s enterprise software ecosystem. He didn’t just build a company, he helped build confidence in what Indian founders were capable of on a global scale.

A Mentor to the Startup Community

Beyond Whatfix, Khadim was known for showing up for others. He spent years mentoring young founders, sharing hard-earned lessons from his own journey, and staying actively involved with India’s startup community. Avinash Raghava, CEO of SaaSBOOMi, remembered him as a friend and mentor whose journey with Whatfix inspired countless founders navigating their own early, uncertain days.

That’s perhaps the most telling part of his legacy. In an industry that often celebrates only the outcome, Khadim was respected just as much for how he got there and for how generously he shared that path with others.

A Legacy That Outlives the Milestones

Khadim Batti’s story is a reminder of what real entrepreneurship looks like, not overnight success, but years of persistence, course correction, and quiet conviction. He built something that outlasted the usual startup hype cycles, and more importantly, he built it in a way that left the ecosystem around him a little better than he found it.

Rest in peace, Khadim. Your journey will continue to inspire the founders who are only just getting started.
