Will The Doll Return for Season 2? Here’s Everything We Know

Netflix's lavish Polish period drama wrapped up its story, but fans are still hoping for more

Will The Doll Return for Season 2? Here's Everything We Know

The Doll has quickly become one of Netflix’s more talked-about international releases, blending romance, obsession, and class conflict into a genuinely lavish six-episode period drama. Now that the first season has wrapped, the obvious question is on everyone’s mind. Will there be a Season 2?

If you haven’t watched the show yet or want a deeper sense of how the central relationship actually plays out, this review of The Doll makes the case that neither Stanislaw nor Izabela comes out of the story fully right or fully wrong, which is really at the heart of what makes the show work.

    What The Doll Is About

The series follows Stanislaw Wokulski, a self-made merchant who returns to Poland after making his fortune during the war. Despite his newfound wealth, his attention quickly shifts toward Izabela Lecka, an aristocrat he becomes determined to win over.

As Stanislaw tries to climb Warsaw’s rigid social ladder, Izabela struggles against the expectations placed on her by her own class, and their increasingly complicated relationship unfolds against a backdrop of money, ambition, and obsession.

By the end of the season, the two finally confess their feelings for each other, but circumstances push them onto separate paths. Stanislaw fakes his own death and leaves Warsaw behind entirely, while Izabela boards a train out of the country, reflecting on everything that led her to that moment.

    So, Has It Been Renewed?

At the time of writing, Netflix has not renewed The Doll for a second season. There’s a fairly clear reason for that too. Netflix has explicitly listed the show as a limited series, and the entire first season consists of just six episodes, adapting Boleslaw Prus’ classic novel of the same name in full.

Since the show covers the complete story from the novel within a single season, the chances of a continuation are genuinely slim. Prus’ novel is considered one of the most significant works in Polish literature, and building an entirely new sequel from scratch would be a considerable undertaking.

That said, Netflix has occasionally reversed course on limited series when a show becomes a big enough hit, so another season can’t be ruled out completely, even if it currently seems unlikely.

What Might a Season 2 Actually Look Like

If a second season did somehow happen, Tomasz Schuchardt and Sandra Drzymalska would presumably need to return as Stanislaw and Izabela.

The first season already includes a few additions from the writing team that could theoretically be picked up again. Izabela, for instance, rejects the idea of joining a convent and instead sneaks onto a train leaving Poland, and a sequel could follow her journey and her more progressive ambitions from there.

Stanislaw’s storyline also leaves an interesting door open. His team discovers oil just as the season ends, which historically became an enormously valuable business, suggesting he’s set to grow far wealthier and more powerful. But having faked his own death, he likely can’t return to Warsaw on his own terms, which raises a real question about whether he and Izabela could ever cross paths again.

There’s also a more unusual possibility. The Netflix series only adapts half of Prus’ original novel, with the other half told through diary entries from Stanislaw’s friend Ignacy Rzecki, covering the revolutionary Spring of Nations period of 1848 and 1849. That unused material could theoretically form the basis of a spinoff exploring Stanislaw’s earlier years, rather than a direct continuation.

For now, though, all signs point to The Doll remaining a self-contained story. If you’re looking for something else with a confirmed future instead, Slow Horses has already been renewed for both Season 7 and Season 8, so that’s one show where the wait for more episodes is already over.
