India also reached the final in the very first edition in 1992, losing to Pakistan, and again in 1996, when they lost to the West Indies. India are taking part in the 2026 edition under the captaincy of Krunal Pandya.

Meanwhile, India’s main ODI side is preparing for the New Zealand series in Auckland, where captain Shubman Gill has caught attention for training with a brain-tracking Temple device on his forehead.

Kuwait’s run to the final was one of the biggest stories of the tournament, as an Associate team reached the title clash ahead of several Test-playing nations.

Hong Kong Sixes 2026: Teams and Groups

The 2026 edition is the 22nd Hong Kong Sixes and features 12 teams split into four groups.

    Group CIndia, Pakistan, UAE
    Group DAfghanistan, Oman, South Africa

The group stage is followed by the Cup, Plate and Bowl knockout rounds, with the final scheduled for Sunday, November 1. This article will be updated with the 2026 winner and runner-up after the final.

Who Are the Favourites for Hong Kong Sixes 2026?

Based on past records, Pakistan start as one of the favourites. They are the defending champions, have the most titles and have reached the final in each of the last three editions. Sri Lanka, the 2024 winners, and South Africa, with five titles, also have strong records in this format. India will be looking to win their first title since 2005, while Associate sides like Hong Kong, the UAE, Oman and Scotland will hope to follow Kuwait’s example from last year and spring a surprise.

Hong Kong Sixes Rules and Format

    Players per side6
Overs per innings6 overs of six balls (8-ball overs in the final)
BowlingEvery player except the wicketkeeper bowls one over; one player can bowl two
BattingA batter retires on reaching 50 and can return later
Last wicketIf five wickets fall early, the last batter can continue alone with a runner
Points2 points for a win in the group stage
    Teams8 teams till 2017, 12 teams from 2024

These special rules are what make the Hong Kong Sixes so entertaining. Short innings, small boundaries and the retire-at-50 rule mean teams have to attack from the very first ball, and almost every match produces a flood of sixes.
