Indian weddings! Marriages are, without a question, the most important event in Indian culture, and they take place on a grand scale. Individuals spend the majority of their life savings on opulent weddings for their child(ren) with the most delectable meals. One of the most essential aspects of Indian nuptials is the food. Pounds of food is cooked for the huge wedding celebrations, but is all of it consumed? The answer is NO. All of that food is thrown away and destroyed.

Indian weddings, which have long been known for their opulence, have only one big drawback: Food Scraps. Unfortunately, this is frequently overlooked and dismissed. Excess food at a wedding is a regular problem, but the key obstacle is avoiding letting that food go to waste. According to various studies, around 40% of the food provided at a wedding location is lost and thrown away after the ceremony. The estimated 10 million marriages in India each year contribute to food waste.

How leftover food at Indian weddings can solve the problem of starvation among poor people?

We are all aware that starvation is one of the top causes of mortality in India. We can easily solve this problem because our country seems to have enough food to satisfy everyone; it just has to be used appropriately. Countless youngsters are starving and sleeping on empty stomachs. People frequently forget, while deciding on the wedding menu, that food produced in such huge quantities may go to waste at the end of the celebration. Fortunately, people are becoming more committed to giving back to society, and they are thinking beyond the occasion.

Here is a list of 7 ways to avoid wastage in Indian Weddings

    1. Choose Menu Carefully

It is critical that you carefully select your wedding meal, and most significantly, that you select food that will appeal to your guests. If you choose an unusual menu but your guests prefer desi Indian meals, the mismatch could result in significant food waste. As a result, it is preferable to know what to order and how much to spend.

    1. Ask for RSVP

Although it is not yet widely practiced in India, it is critical to request RSVPs from your guests to accurately estimate the amount of food needed. Catering companies can easily plan ahead of time as well.

Reduce Food wastage in Indian weddings

    1. Selecting a Caterer

While there are hundreds of caterers to choose from, choosing a marriage caterer for your wedding is a difficult undertaking. Most people choose caterers who have been suggested by close family and friends. Following food tastings, some families are still willing to try new caterers. When selecting caterers, ensure that they have prior experience with wedding catering to decrease the possibility of food waste.

    1. Ask your wedding guest

Everyone understands that meals should not be wasted. However, telling your guests the truth may come out as disrespectful. However, you can have your napkins printed with the same message. This type of reminder can be beneficial since individuals will make a deliberate effort not to squander food.

    1. Collaboration with non-governmental organizations

There are several non-governmental organizations (NGOs) that are attempting to reduce food waste by delivering excess food to areas where it is needed. These NGOs can be readily reached before or after your function. Folks from these NGOs come and take the remains and carefully deliver them to the workers who need food the most.

    1. Reduction in wastage of paper

Usage of Wedding Invitation cards can be minimized by inviting people with E-cards. As a result, this will contribute to the reduction of wastage of papers.
