    Traffic challan

Getting a traffic challan for a violation you didn’t commit can be frustrating. Sometimes, errors happen due to incorrect number plate detection, technical glitches, or mistakes by the traffic police. If you have received a wrong e-challan, don’t worry—you can challenge it. Here’s how you can file a complaint and get the issue resolved.

Step 1: Check the Details of the Challan

Before filing a complaint, carefully check the details mentioned in the challan. Look for errors in:

    • Vehicle number
    • Date and time of the violation
    • Location of the offence
    • Type of violation

If you find a mistake, take screenshots or print a copy of the challan for reference.

Step 2: Visit the Official E-Challan Website

The Indian government provides an online portal for traffic challans. You can check and challenge your challan on the Parivahan website:

    1. Go to https://echallan.parivahan.gov.in/
    2. Enter your vehicle number or challan number
    3. Verify the details and download a copy if needed

Step 3: File a Complaint Online

Most states allow online complaints against wrong traffic challans. Follow these steps:

    1. Visit the official website of your state’s traffic police
    2. Look for the ‘Grievance’ or ‘Challan Dispute’ section
    3. Fill in the required details like your name, vehicle number, and challan number
    4. Upload supporting documents (such as vehicle RC, driving licence, or any proof that shows you were not at the location)
    5. Submit the complaint and note the reference number for tracking

Step 4: Contact Traffic Police via Email or Helpline

If online submission is not available, you can email your complaint to your city’s traffic police department. Many cities also have helpline numbers where you can raise the issue. Visit the official traffic police website of your state for contact details.

Step 5: Visit the Nearest Traffic Police Office

If your complaint is not resolved online, visit the nearest traffic police office with all necessary documents. Explain your case and request them to cancel the challan.

    Step 6: Wait for Resolution

After submitting your complaint, authorities will verify the details. If they find the challan was issued wrongly, it will be cancelled. You can track the status of your complaint on the Parivahan website or through the reference number provided.

    Final Thoughts

Wrong traffic challans can happen due to technical errors, but the good news is you can challenge them easily. Always check your challan carefully, gather proof, and file a complaint through the correct channels. By following the right steps, you can get your issue resolved without paying an unfair fine.
