Monsoon Health Tips: Why Do You Fall Sick When the Weather Changes? Learn Prevention Methods

Many people start falling sick as soon as the weather changes. While this is usually a common issue, it can sometimes become serious. Weather changes are a natural phenomenon, but some people cannot tolerate these changes and fall ill. Just a few days ago, we were all battling extreme heat, and now, with the arrival of the monsoon, we are facing fluctuating temperatures and humidity. This negatively impacts our health, especially children and the elderly. Negligence, particularly, leads to cold, cough, fever, stomach ache, and skin allergies in every season. To avoid falling sick, you need to be prepared in advance so that you can fully enjoy the weather.

    Understand the Reasons:

If you or any family member falls sick with the change of weather, it means your immune system is weak. This weak immune system allows external infections to attack your body repeatedly, causing you to fall ill with even slight weather changes. A weak immune system increases the risk of flu, infections, and dehydration.

    Prevention from Infections:

When the weather changes, the risk of infections increases the most. With the monsoon season setting in, the threat of bacterial infections, fungal infections, protozoan diseases like bronchitis, typhoid, flu, and malaria also rises. In case of any bacterial infection, it is essential to consult a doctor.

    Maintain Cleanliness:

Cleanliness is crucial, regardless of the season. During the rainy season, most illnesses stem from dirt, as the surroundings become filthy and muddy. Therefore, it is essential to keep your surroundings clean. Do not forget to wash your hands before and after eating. Prevent water from accumulating around your house. Wash vegetables and fruits thoroughly. Use insecticides for home cleaning and prevent mosquitoes from breeding.

    Nutritious Diet:

Adopt a good diet to strengthen your immunity. Avoid stale food and fried items, eat at least two fresh fruits daily, and consume more green vegetables and pulses. Keep yourself hydrated. Don’t assume that the heat is gone. If possible, drink turmeric milk once a day or drink boiled water. This strengthens immunity and keeps you away from illnesses.

Include Turmeric, Basil, and Ginger in Your Diet:

According to Dr. Avinash Kumar, Senior Physician at Delhi’s Deep Chand Bandhu Hospital, weather changes affect children and the elderly the most, so it is essential to take special care of them. Iron your clothes before wearing them to kill germs on them. Avoid consuming very cold foods, refrain from eating outside food, and consume more liquids to stay hydrated and focus on strengthening your immunity. During the rainy season, include turmeric, basil, and ginger in your diet as they act as antibiotics and keep the immune system robust. Wear a mask when going out, and gargle with lukewarm salted water twice a day. This helps maintain good oral health, reducing the risk of infections.
