Going to Thailand? New Visa Rule Requires Rs 46000 in Hand

    New visa rules for thailand

How Easy It Used to Be to Travel to Thailand, Right?

You could just grab your passport and set off with a visa in hand. But starting May 2025, Thailand has made major changes to its visa rules—just like many other countries. These new regulations are causing inconvenience for travellers around the world, including Indian citizens. The aim behind these updates is to make the immigration process more secure and efficient. So, if you’re planning a trip to Thailand, it’s important to understand these new rules clearly.

    What Changes Have Been Made?

According to the new rules, tourists applying for a Thai visa now need to show proof of financial stability. Specifically, travellers must prove that they have at least 20,000 Thai Baht (around ₹46,000) available. You can show one of the following documents as proof:

    • Bank statements for the last three months
    • A valid sponsorship letter from a third party

    Other Required Documents for Visa

In addition to the financial proof, you’ll need to provide:

    • A valid passport (at least 6 months validity)
    • A recent passport-size photo
    • Proof of residence (like an electricity bill or rent agreement)
    • Confirmed round-trip flight tickets
    • Accommodation details (hotel bookings or host details)

These rules have already been implemented at Thai embassies in countries like the USA, France, and Norway, indicating that the Thai government is now enforcing stricter checks before issuing visas.

Digital Form Must Be Submitted Online

Starting 1 May 2025, Thailand has launched a new system called the Thailand Digital Arrival Card (TDAC). Every non-Thai traveller entering via air, land, or sea must fill out this online digital form at least 3 days before travel.

    Old Form Has Been Discontinued

The traditional TM6 paper arrival card has now been discontinued and replaced by the TDAC form. This form requires travellers to submit:

    • Passport details
    • Travel and accommodation info
    • Any recent illness or medical information

The TDAC is meant to enhance health safety, security, and speed up the immigration process.

Visa-Free Stay Likely to Be Reduced to 30 Days

Thailand is also planning to reduce the current 60-day visa-free entry period to 30 days. The reason? Some travellers have misused this facility by overstaying or engaging in illegal activities. As a result, the government is reconsidering its visa-free policy to make immigration laws stricter.

Currently, citizens from 93 countries—including India—can stay in Thailand visa-free for up to 60 days. But this policy may soon change.

Indians Must Also Follow the New Rules

Thailand is moving towards stricter immigration norms. All travellers will now need to:

    • Submit the TDAC form before arrival
    • Show proof of funds on entry

Failure to comply may lead to denial of entry or further complications.

Although Indian passport holders currently don’t need a visa, this policy might change in the near future. So, it’s important to stay updated through official sources or the Thai embassy.

To make your trip smooth and hassle-free, be sure to follow the new rules carefully.
