The National Medical Commission (NMC) announced on Wednesday 9th march 2022, that the upper age restriction for students taking the National Eligibility Cumulative Entrance Test (Undergraduate) exam in 2022 has been eliminated. In 2017, the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) set an age cap of 25 years for general students and 30 years for reserved students. Additionally, the CBSE announced in a notice that “the upper age restriction for NEET UG is 25 years as on the date of assessment, with a five-year exemption for applicants belonging to ST/OBC/SC class.”

National Medical Commission Statement NEET UG Exam 2022:

NMC stated in an official announcement, “I’d like to notify you that the 4th NMC meeting, held on October 21, 2021, resolved that there should be no defined upper age restriction for participating in the NEET-UG examination. As a result, the info bulletin may need to be updated.”

Furthermore, the process for formal notification to adequately change the Regulations on Grad Medical Training, 1997 to this effect has been commenced,” said Dr Pulkesh Kumar, Secretary NMC, in a letter to Dr Devvrat, Office of Senior Director, National Testing Authority.

    NEET UG exam Update

Significantly, the age criteria for NEET UG have frequently been challenged in the country’s Supreme Court and high courts.

The removal of the upper age restriction is a boon for many NEET hopefuls because they can now take the medical entry exam as many times as they like, even after enrolling in other institutions, according to an official. Finally, It will also help people looking for work in other nations.

Good news for the aspirants of NEET-UG!

The National Medical Commission removes the fixed upper age limit for appearing in the NEET-UG examination.

The decision will immensely benefit aspiring doctors and further help in strengthening medical education in the country.

    — Office of Dr Mansukh Mandaviya (@OfficeOf_MM) March 9, 2022

Dr. Manish, FORDA president, was quoted by ANI as stating. “We welcome the decision.” “The upper age limit of 25 years has now been eliminated. It’s a positive step, and I appreciate NMC for it. In Fact, There is currently a doctor deficit in the country; with this step, more and more individuals will be able to pursue MBBS. As a result, our country will have more doctors.”

    Final Verdict:

NEET is India’s single entrance test for MBBS, BDS, and certain other affiliated degrees. Every year, over 15 lakh candidates take the exam. Moreover, the test was carried out in September of last year. The date and timing for NEET 2022 are yet to be announced by the NTA. However, the test has also been utilized for entrance to BSc Nursing and BSc Health Sciences programs since 2021.
