The entire Ambani family, including Mukesh Ambani, Nita Ambani, Akash Ambani, Isha Ambani and Anant Ambani, attended the listing ceremony at the National Stock Exchange in Mumbai, where they rang the opening bell.
Anant Ambani opened his address with “gratitude” and said, “Today, Jio is shared with India.” Isha Ambani spoke about the long hours her brother Akash, Jio’s Managing Director, had put into the company and said, “I could not be prouder to be your sister.” Mukesh Ambani appeared visibly emotional while his children spoke. Reliance also carried “Thank you, India” advertisements on the front pages of major newspapers on listing day.
Reliance Industries Share Price on Jio Listing Day
While Jio Platforms rallied, shares of parent Reliance Industries traded slightly lower. Around 9:37 am, RIL was at Rs 1,189.40 on the NSE, down 0.57%. Some profit-booking in a parent company’s shares is common when a subsidiary lists. The broader market also opened weak due to high crude oil prices and a softer rupee. Reliance will announce its September quarter results on Friday, October 30.
Jio Platforms Financials at a Glance
| Period | Total income | Profit after tax |
|---|---|---|
| FY26 (year ended March 31) | Rs 1,49,759 crore | Rs 30,053 crore |
| Quarter ended June 30 | Rs 40,198 crore | Rs 7,764 crore |
Reliance Jio Infocomm, the company’s telecom unit, had 533.3 million customers as of June 30 and carries nearly 60% of India’s mobile data traffic. Of the IPO money, Rs 27,500 crore will go towards repaying debt, which should lower interest costs and support profits going forward.
Should Investors Hold or Sell Jio Platforms Shares?
Most market experts see Jio Platforms as a long-term holding, but advice for allotted investors differs based on their goals.
Dr Ravi Singh, Chief Research Officer at Master Capital Services, said allottees can consider booking partial profits if the stock lists at a significant premium. He added that new investors should avoid chasing the stock at expensive valuations on listing day and wait for the price to settle.
Mahesh M Ojha, VP of Research at Kantilal Chhaganlal Securities, said the listing gain offers a good window for short-term traders, while the company’s compounding potential supports a buy-and-hold approach for long-term investors. Uday Patil of PL Capital called it “a long term bet” that most investors would want in their portfolio.
A balanced approach many traders follow after a strong listing is to sell a part of the allotted shares to lock in gains and hold the rest for the long term. Analysts have flagged competition, heavy capital spending on 5G and AI, and changes to telecom rules on spectrum and licensing fees as key risks to watch.
What to Watch Next
The next big trigger for Jio Platforms will be its first quarterly results as a listed company. Investors will also track Reliance Industries’ Q2 results on October 30, any tariff hikes in the telecom sector, and the company’s plans for home broadband, enterprise services and AI. Daily price movement in the first few weeks after listing may be volatile as short-term investors exit and long-term funds build positions.
