Apple has announced the new 14-inch MacBook Pro with its M6 chip. Pre-orders open on October 28, and the laptop starts reaching customers on Friday, November 6. If you followed the buildup, this earlier piece on the Pro and Tell event covers what people expected before the launch. Here is what Apple actually announced.
What the M6 Chip Brings
The M6 has a 12-core CPU, which is two more cores than before. Apple says it has the world’s fastest CPU core. The 12-core GPU also gets two extra cores, and Apple claims up to 30 percent faster graphics and up to 25 percent faster AI work than M5.
The Dual 16-core Neural Engine is said to be up to 1.9 times faster than M5’s. Memory starts at 16GB and goes up to 32GB, with bandwidth up to 170GB/s. That should help with big projects and heavy apps.

How Much Faster Is It?
Apple shared speed claims against two older models. These are the company’s own numbers, so real results may differ.
| Task | Faster than M1 MacBook Pro | Faster than M5 MacBook Pro |
|---|---|---|
| LLM prompt processing | Up to 13x | Up to 1.3x |
| Blender ray tracing | Up to 11.7x | Up to 1.3x |
| Affinity image processing | Up to 3.3x | Up to 1.2x |
| Xcode project builds | Up to 2.5x | Up to 1.3x |
The big gains are for people still on an M1 or an Intel Mac. If you already own an M5, the jump is smaller, roughly 1.2 to 1.3x in these tests.
Battery and Charging
The headline claim is up to 24 hours of battery life. Apple says that is up to four hours more than the M1 model and up to 14 hours more than Intel-based models. Fast charging can reach 50 percent in 30 minutes with a compatible higher-wattage adapter, such as the 96W one. Battery claims depend on how you use the laptop, so treat 24 hours as a best case.
Display, Ports and Everyday Features
The Liquid Retina XDR display reaches up to 1,600 nits of peak HDR brightness with a 1,000,000:1 contrast ratio. The nano-texture option cuts glare, which helps if you work near windows. The laptop supports up to two external displays. People moving from an M1 or Intel Mac also get an extra Thunderbolt port and the space black finish, which Apple says shows fewer fingerprints.
macOS 27 and Siri AI
The laptop runs macOS 27. It includes Siri AI, which can use personal context from messages, emails and photos. It also adds Apple Intelligence tools in Safari, Shortcuts and Photos. Safari can sort tabs into topics and warn you about price drops, and Shortcuts can build an automation from a simple description. A new slider in Settings lets you adjust Liquid Glass from ultraclear to fully tinted. The same AI push appeared with phones, as covered in Apple’s launch of the iPhone Duo, iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max.

Built With the Environment in Mind
Apple says the laptop uses 45 percent recycled content overall. That includes a 100 percent recycled aluminium enclosure and recycled cobalt in the battery. It also uses recycled tantalum in some capacitors, a first for Apple. The company says 60 percent of the electricity used in manufacturing comes from renewable sources.
Should You Upgrade?
If you use an M1 or Intel MacBook Pro, the gains in speed, battery life and connectivity look big. If you already have an M5 model, the upgrade is more modest, so it makes sense to wait for real-world reviews. Either way, the 14-inch MacBook Pro with M6 goes on sale on November 6.
