AAP leader Lucky Oberoi was shot dead in a shocking daylight attack in Jalandhar on February 6. The incident took place outside a gurdwara in the Model Town area, sending shockwaves across Punjab’s political circles.
What Actually happenned
According to police, two bike-borne attackers opened fire at Oberoi around 8 am when he was sitting inside his Thar SUV after offering morning prayers. Eyewitnesses said 5 to 10 bullets were fired at close range. Oberoi suffered multiple gunshot wounds to the chest and head.
He was rushed to a private hospital in critical condition but was declared dead shortly after arrival. The attackers fled the spot on a Honda Activa scooter.
Victim profile
Lucky Oberoi, aged around 38, was a local leader of the Aam Aadmi Party. A resident of Guru Teg Bahadur Nagar, he was known as a financier and builder involved in the property business. He was considered close to AAP’s Jalandhar Cantt leadership. His wife, Simarjot Kaur, had contested municipal elections on an AAP ticket last year.

Investigation underway
Punjab Police immediately cordoned off the area and launched a large-scale investigation. Forensic teams collected evidence from the spot, while CCTV footage from nearby areas is being scanned. Police have also set up checkpoints across Jalandhar to track the attackers.
No arrests have been made so far. Officials said they are probing all possible angles, including personal enmity and political rivalry. This is the second killing of an AAP leader reported in Punjab this year.
Security concerns rise
The murder has triggered sharp reactions from opposition parties, who have raised concerns over the state’s law-and-order situation. Security has been tightened in sensitive areas as police continue the hunt for the assailants.
