New Rules Implemented for Visiting India Gate – Picnics Won’t Be the Same Anymore

New Rules Implemented for Visiting India Gate – Picnics Won’t Be the Same Anymore

India Gate, located in the heart of the national capital, attracts tourists not just from across India but also from around the world. However, recent changes in security and tourist regulations have made visits more challenging. Tourists are now required to leave behind their bags, belongings, food, and pets before entering the monument area.

This has led to a new pattern where families or groups split into two. While one group visits the monument, the other stays outside to watch over the belongings. Once the first group returns, the others take their turn. This change has left many visitors disappointed.

A Look at the New Rules

Under the new regulations, visitors are no longer allowed to carry bags, mats, food, or pets to the India Gate site. This clearly means that people can no longer enjoy picnics with their families or groups at the monument. Additionally, the central government is reportedly considering more restrictions, including limitations on video recording in the area.

    No Locker Facility Available

Despite such significant changes, no locker facilities have been made available at the site, adding to tourists’ inconvenience. In contrast, popular historic sites in Delhi like the Red Fort and Qutub Minar already offer locker services.

    Tourists Express Frustration

Many visitors have expressed frustration over the new rules. A tourist from Prayagraj, seen waiting outside with bags while his family visited inside, said he had to stay back due to the ban on belongings.

“There’s no locker facility, so I’m forced to wait outside,” he said. Another tourist from Prayagraj called the lack of lockers a major oversight, while a visitor from Varanasi urged authorities to strike a balance between security concerns and public convenience.

    What Authorities Said

Security officials stated that these measures are part of efforts to preserve and enhance the beauty of India Gate. According to them, the new grass and landscaping were being damaged due to tourists spreading mats, eating food, and spending long hours on the lawns.

The restrictions on bags, food, and mats are aimed at maintaining the cleanliness and appearance of the site. Officials also hinted that steps are being taken to introduce locker facilities to ease tourists’ concerns.
