FASTag Mandatory for All Vehicles from February 15 Midnight

After observing huge traffics on toll plazas led the Union Ministry of Road Transportation and Highways to take a decision for making FASTag mandatory for your vehicle. So, if you are planning to go for a road trip after Monday Midnight, then make sure you have a FASTag. Basically, FASTag is a Radio Frequency Identification tag, which facilitates electronic payment of fees at toll plazas. Vehicles without FASTags will have to pay twice the toll amount.

    FASTag Mandatory from February 15

Union Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari said that the deadline will not be extended at any cost and vehicle owners have to buy an e-payment facility immediately. All the toll plaza lanes will be declared as FASTag lane from midnight of February 15/16.

The working process of FASTag is really simple, a sticker will be attached to the windshield of the vehicle that contains an RFID-enabled barcode that will be linked with the registration details of your vehicle. This barcode will be scanned by a scanner that is mounted on top and the amount will be deducted from your prepaid balance, and this is how unnecessary traffic will reduce at toll plazas.

How to Buy FASTag for Your Vehicle?

It is easy to buy FASTag for your vehicle, either you can buy from certain toll plazas across the country by submitting identification and vehicle registration documents or you can also buy it on Paytm and Amazon website or on the websites of certain banks like SBI, HDFC Bank, ICICI Bank, Axis bank, etc.

The type of vehicle will decide the cost of FAStag for your vehicle and the website you are getting it from. But there is also an option to buy it from Paytm for Rs. 500, out of which Rs. 250 will be deducted as a refundable security deposit, and Rs. 150 will be added to your wallet.

It is easy to recharge your FASTag digital wallet by using internet banking, credit or debit card, and through UPI too. The validity of FASTag is of five years and the recharged amount in your FASTag e-wallet does not have an extended validity period associated with it.

Judges, ministers, lawmakers, top bureaucrats, emergency service workers, and military officers are exempted from paying tolls and they do not need FASTags
